I think it appears after at least 12 rides with power.
I did an unscheduled gravel time trial yesterday (Saturday) that was approximately 24 min full gas. Monday, I have a ramp scheduled, which I donโt plan on doing. Will this AI FTP estimate look at an unscheduled outside race/tt to estimate my ftp or will only look at previously scheduled workouts that were completed (inside)?
Was it done with a PM? In any case, no single workout is figured into FTPd. Itโs not an algorithm that looks at your best 20+ min recent efforts, there are plenty of programs that do that. FTPd looks at many different factors and estimates what is an appropriate FTP. So it could probably ignore your entire last week of training and FTPd would still be within a few watts if not the same.
Yes. Done with power meter. In the past, when it comes to doing FTP test, I normally sign up for a time trial and use the appropriate multiplier. Something about the competition aspect of the paid event, seems to motivate me to go all out compared to looking at a monitor.
On Monday, I guess Iโll let TR do the estimation. Itโll be interesting to see how that compares to 90-95% of my race/Time Trial power number.
A % of your best 20 min race effort will likely lead to an overestimation. A 20 min FTP test requires some VO2 efforts before, usually at least 5 mins, to deplete anaerobic contributions.
Agree. The actual effort was 24 min. I did some VO2 prior to and the day before I did 2 hours of hard XC riding with 90 min of it in zone 4 heart rate. I definitely wasnโt as fresh as I should have been if I were planning to do my best effort. I was a last minute decision to do the TT.
Just a follow up 1.5 weeks after accepting FTPD that I know is 3-5% high compared to my sustainable power.
Every workout has been right on until today. I had a 2 hour level 8.4 - Garrowby +8. Basically 4x2x10. I popped after the two highest intensity ones, which are 94% of current setting, but certainly higher into my threshold zone.
I dropped to z2 through the last 2.5 10s and simply answered the survey as too intense. Adaptations down in level moving forward, which is exactly what it should do.
So far so good. The system is performing exactly how it should for me, even with the high FTP setting.
Note, I have also skipped workouts and done easier ones. The system handles all my mucking with it perfectly.
Hit the button. Sweet, 2.2% bump. I accepted.
But. Ftp did not change. Do I have to manually change it? Do progression levels update from a manual ftp change?
What is FTPD, is this a TR expression to AI FTP?
Itโs a community-defined shorthand for the name of the feature, โFTP Detectionโ (in the topic for this thread). See also:
Had a ramp test scheduled today. Clicked FTPD and got what Iโd predicted. Then it subbed in a VO2max workout for me, which is exactly what I fancied doing today. Cool.
Iโve run the detection a few times, originally I was getting estimate of 302w (currently set at 295), and I posted above that I ran a test this past week and got 293 estimate. I ran it again today as Iโm at the end of my rest week and got an estimate of 290. Seems like, at least for me, the estimate may depend on the type of riding Iโm doing, or at least something like my sweet spot progression level, which over the past few weeks went from 10 to now 6.4 simply due to the fact that Iโve been doing vo2 and z2. Still maintaining a 295 setting though, regardless of whether itโs a little up or a little down from there.
Very interesting.
Are you following a plan?
No, I did a loose version of ssb HV for 12 weeks (2 sweet spot workouts, the rest z2), and the past 4 weeks were 2 vo2 days and endurance (12, 13, 14, 8hr easy week)
Iโm also getting the same message. Is there a fix?
What is your VO2 progression level?
I just ran ftp detection and got a 3.7 percent increase which I am totally happy with. My compliance to scheduled workouts is great now and I am challenged but not crushed. I am even planning to buy power meter pedals so that I can record my outdoor rides in the summer and do two TR workouts per week indoors as well so that the AI will have enough data to keep me training year round (except for a 3 week time off the bike rest.
But this brings up my question:
- is anyone doing something similar and are the outdoor rides being used by the AI to make adjustments to your plans and ftp appropriately?
The reason I ask this is that last week (during my recovery week) I did the Sufferfest tour de sufferlandria where power data was of course recorded onto strava and then ported onto my TR calendar. However it does not seem to have had any impact on adaptions being made to my plan or progression numbers.
Does this mean that outdoor numbers are taken into account by Adaptive training but training on other platforms is not? Inquiring minds that want Zwift and TR to merge want to know.
5.2, but Iโve been doing custom workouts so take that with a grain of salt
This is a 2 part question/answer:
-
AT Training Plans: AT will adjust Progression Levels based upon actual TR workouts performed inside and/or outside. It is not officially supporting โunstructured ridesโ that arenโt those former versions. However, some people have been applying hacks to try and associate their โunstructured ridesโ with TR workouts. I just donโt know the details or success of that. TR is actively working on โLevels 2.0โ that is aimed at handling ALL workouts for AT & PL use.
-
FTP Detection: TR is using any and all ride & workout data that includes power, as well as heart rate apparently.
The changes you saw jive with some of my hunches.
One last Q: what was the progression change and rate roughly of your VO2?
