your brain: FINE! Hey legs and lungs prepare to cry. And Ego, prepare to be bruised!
If you feel the number is inflated you can always lower it.
People who do structure training should probably know how realistic is a personal 10% ftp bump based on other wo.
and People who are new to structured training, the AI will probably give them something close to their ftp level.
Have you sent this to TR to review?
What numbers do you get from eFTP on intervals ICU? I seam to get a closer figure - not that I have ever used that figure to train but It’s always + or - 5W for me, which is a reasonable figure.
Also - note the failed workout thread, I see most of the failed workouts are threshold workouts. I understand people say PL’s work so you can have a range of FTP that is workable - which works fine for all the other zones other than threshold imo.
I’ve responded on this forum a few days ago over the same thing but haven’t got a response. It’s not a big deal - I know what my numbers are - it’s just if my ego allowed me to accept that number I know it would have been fatal!
In my case - it estimated 291
I barely hold 290 when I am doing O/U where the over part is 290 - so silly to think 291 was my estimated FTP.
Currently I am training at 275 - which I suspect is slightly lower than my actual FTP but I do outdoor workouts and love to exceed my numbers rather than hold on to whatever percentage is prescribed - so that suits me
I had something occur yesterday that seems like a slight bug. I used FTP detection on 2/15 for a regularly scheduled FTP test. Results matched expectations (love the feature BTW). Then this week I missed a Tue workout due to illness. I posted an Illness notation on Tue-Wed. TR then scheduled another FTP test on Thursday but wouldn’t allow me to use FTP detection because within 2 weeks of my last test. No alternate workouts for FTP test - my only options were to do the Ramp test (which I did not want to do coming off illness) or delete and use Schedule Now which I did.
Does an illness notation automatically result in a new FTP test or why did that get scheduled?
It seems to overestimate for me sometimes but is generally not too far off when I’m doing TTs. But at this time of year, closed season) (when I’m doing no maximal efforts of 5mins) its continually falling. I think it started about 25w over my current AIFTP, before settling down and is now 21w below it, and falling. So for me whilst its interesting it would be no good for training.
Are you not tempted to try a level 4 threashold workout first before you write it off?
If you haven’t done so, please submit it directly to support@trainerroad.com or the portal on the Early Access page. The forum is ok for general discussion, but issues like yours and the one above really need to be sent directly to TR reps for review.
Some of them are watching these threads, but they are secondary and the actual support paths are the best to use. It puts your info into a tracked que and will be addressed quickly based on all my uses of that system.
Thanks - I’ll keep that in mind for if anything more serious happens
For now this is just a tiny tiny imperfection (for me) in a great product. So I’ll just continue as normal!
At this point in early access it’s probably good to point out any situations where the current AI detection isn’t working properly to support so they can keep making improvements. Remember, it’s not finished yet!
100% agree @purgatos. That is my point. TR should know about any issue that seems less than ideal, confusing or completely odd. They are looking for oddities and edge cases to improve the experience for anyone who may end up in that scenario when this reaches wider release.
10 watts lower the TR AI FTP and all match, eftp ICU, WKO5 and Koolie Moore Protocol.
Same… except lower numbers.
I’ll try and find time to summit to support this evening.
Well… I’m happy (in our case) we can put our ego’s aside and do what’s right for our training! Will power needed to refuse a higher number!!!
I accepted even though I knew it was wrong to see how AI handled it, I was intrigued and was always going to delete the FTPD… after trying a few sessions… lets just say the experiment was a fail.
I dont mind as I only really doing maintainance riding AtM, I have other focuses so it okay to experiment. If anything my FTP should have dropped slightly.
Only really signed back up to TR on a monthly basis, after 2 years away from the product, to see what the new features were like. I wonder if it is out so much because of all but six sessions are not on TR… all with a Vector3 dual power meter btw.
Anyway, FTPD deleted… rechecked and its a watt lower but I’ll stick with the KM assessment unless it starts to match… although I am not sure if I’ll keep the TR sub beyond a month or two yet.
Outdoor workout inclusion, and to a lesser extent, but still important, no running import is a deal breaker for me.
Yeah it would been so easy to say yes to +10w and find excusses why I could only do a PL2 Threshold session lol.

My personal opinion, the current FTPD should not look ahead in any way. It is about giving you an FTP in TR, for that specific day. It does that with review of the 12 workout minimum up to some longer period limit and does whatever magic it does to provide the Detected FTP.
- This is about the NOW. TR needs to give you what is appropriate for workouts today and in the very near future (14 days minimum since that is their planned lockout).
-
What you mention matters with respect to the pending FTP Prediction that they said is in process and will be delivered at some point. THAT instance would need to look at the training plan in place to make any reasonable estimation for a future state FTP range. This is about the FUTURE.
I understand, and agree. I was just trying to find a way to defend the AI-FTP.
I might try it and see what the PL drops do. I have doubts about setting FTP high, but looking at Threshold workouts, if it drops me to a 4.something I could do those workouts.
I just accepted and it didn’t change any of my PL’s whatsoever. That’s highly unideal .
@ambermalika is there a way for me to give my PL’s a nudge from my end? Or do I need to contact support if I want to use the detected FTP?

That’s kinda my point overall. We shouldn’t be “defending” it at all. We should be “challenging” it whenever possible.

My own use has been good and made sense. But I know there are plenty of other users who’ve had odd and downright questionable results. Relaying those directly to TR for review is the entire point of them opening this up to a wider audience while limiting it to Early Access.
They WANT to know about the failures as much or more than the successes. Each has value, but they aim to fix the problems while keeping and growing the successes. That is the underlying reason I keep pushing on people to submit even the mildest questions.
