Same here; thanks!
Ha is that real? I love it
Did a ramp FTP beginning of Jan that was 217. Did a month of (Z-word) races x 2 per week for a month that gave me a (Z-word) FTP of 224. Had a rest week last week with a planned ramp test tomorrow.
I guessed my FTP would be somewhere between 217 and 224 – AI FTP was 220. Essentially right where I thought it would be
Of course I had to accept it - we’ll see how the 6 days of HVSS I have planned this week will feel ![]()
I used this this am and was so pleased to not take the test and get to do a workout instead! I can’t quite describe my happiness with this since I always do very badly on these tests and it feels like a waste of time to me - a waste to not workout ahead and then do this kind of effort that is not my strong suit. Thank you!!! One issue - i had opted in to it yesterday following the instructions and then opened the app last night on my phone. This am, I had to open and close the app to get the option to use auto detection. It was not there at first and wanted to load the ramp test as the only option.
I just got prompted today to accept/reject a suggested FTP change (instead of doing my scheduled ramp test tomorrow). I have just 19 workouts logged so far, plus 3 imported Tour de Zwift Z2 rides. As a 50 y/o man at 208 pounds who has ridden recreationally for about 6 years, I’m really trying to quantify and improve my fitness. My FTP was initially 217 and has progressed up to 231. I accepted the new current suggestion of 240. We’ll see how tomorrow’s “productive” sweet spot workout goes!
@ambermalika When it first came out I tried the AI FTP detection and it worked fine. I did not accept the changes as I was in the middle of a plan. I then tried to show a friend how it worked and it got stuck on the “processing data” tab. I have deleted and readded a ramp test, opted in and out of early access and it still is giving me the same message. I also checked and my birthdate is correct. This week is my recovery week so I am hoping that next week I can use it and skip the ramp test
I enabled AI FTP but the Trainer Road app won’t let me see my number until my next scheduled FTP test, which is over a month away. I tried scheduling a Ramp Test today but that didn’t work. I suppose I could delete my entire training plan and build a whole new training plan in order to move the FTP test up. That workaround seems stupid and I like to believe Nate and the gang are really smart. Am I missing something?
Did you have two workouts today, with the ramp being the 2nd?
Schedule ramp test > open career tab > use AI FTP detection
I had no workout scheduled for today so I scheduled a ramp test. I found the Use FTP Detection toggle switch, but it says I can’t see my number for two weeks since I took a ramp test recently. I understand not wanting people to update repeatedly, but why not let me see my number just once to begin with - without making me wait two weeks??
Found the AI FTP button on the Career page. Thanks for the help. It still won’t let me see my number for two weeks since I recently did a ramp test. Doesn’t make a lot of sense.
As I understand it, if you delete your last FTP result in your “FTP History” tab under your “Account” tab, then you can see and update it. However, I believe this may also have an affect on your progression levels.
Thanks. I’ll just wait the two weeks. It’s a bummer after the last TR podcast got me all excited about AI FTP but I’ll survive. They should fix the bug though.
I am not seeing the AI button on the Career page. I did just sign up however. How do I activate the AI FTP feature?
I moved your post under the main topic. See the first post at the top for all the details on proper setup and use.
Holy Moly!
I had close to two months off of structured training with a three weeks off the bike. So I thought, no way can this “AI” even get close. I took an 8 minute test and the AI gave me an estimated FTP with in 1 watt of my test result!
Incredible.
I had the same thing this morning. I had a scheduled ramp test, used the estimate tool and it gave me a 3.3% bump from 212 up to 219. Nice. So I took it but it then assigned me Clingman’s which is a 4.5 when my PL was only 3.7. I tried it, completed it (surprisingly).
Initially it told me it was a “productive” workout and now its marked as a “stretch” (No Sh!t!)
Just noticed, the 3.7 was pre FTP change, it’s now given me a progression of 2.1 Sweetspot and 1.4 tempo!
Could it have assigned the workout based upon my previous FTP PLs? Is it a bug or oversight?
Just thought I’d drop a note in here to say that the AI worked well for me. I’d been training with a self-estimated FTP of 240 for a while, with interruptions including COVID. I managed to string together a few weeks of consistency and started to feel my fitness returning. So was thinking that I’d probably be able to pop just over 250 if I tested. (I usually guess my ramp test results pretty well but am a touch conservative so often beat my expectations just a little bit.) The prediction gave me 256, which is totally plausible and I accepted it.
Now, though, I’m going to have to test its predictions of waning fitness, because I crashed and broke my hip on Saturday… will be on crutches for 12 weeks. Wonder what it’ll predict then!?
When I press the ‘detect FTP’ button, it just says it’s processing and doesn’t give me a value. I tried it yesterday and today, and still no dice. I tried deleting and adding a ramp test as someone else suggested also. Bug?
Edit: it magically worked after trying it several times this am.
Bummer on the hip. Hope you heal quickly. At least the spring classics are coming up to watch…
