🎉 🎉 🎉 Introducing Adaptive Training! 🎉 🎉 🎉

Unless you are at risk of “running out” of your current plan in the next month or so, I don’t see much benefit to redoing it right now. I think it makes sense to wait for your AT access and then redo Plan Builder at that time.

It has weeks to go but it wasn’t set with any goal in mind. I now have a trip planned for late Oct that I want to make the most of and given no other goals it seems sensible to plan to be close to peak fitness for this trip.

  • That is so far out (well over a regular 28 week cycle) that I don’t see a need to rush a redo.
  • But if you want to jump in and see what PB offers, go for it. No harm if you are willing to nuke the current plan and run through the steps.

I actually think this is a simple solution to some of the most vocal forum members and the protocol threads

If (username == XXXXX){
FTP.Label = “Ramp Test Result”
}

Problem solved! :tada:

Those adapted workouts look cool, it will be so nice to get these in a plan - not just to be progressing at a more individualised level, but also for the sake of variety! Love it.

Yeah, those are two I have not likely seen, let alone done. So I am excited to see and try the new stuff just for that fact. Knowing (or at least hoping) they suit my progression better is totally great too and should be the headline… but who doesn’t love a little variety :stuck_out_tongue:

I wonder if this could also pave the way for longer build cycles or double-builds. Right now, it would kill me to do two build phases in a row and at some point I would stumble with a weekly progression and start manually substituting some workouts.

With AT, I would hopefully get through the build phase a bit easier and then be able to go a bit longer to take the progression where it was originally intended to go.

I gather you’re taking the Mickey, but sure :joy:

Cheers for your update…re: jobs…If you need a finance guy… I’m your man!

Honestly, I really hope that TR doesn’t waste time and energy doing this. If you don’t buy the plans around Adaptive Training, that’s fine - just judge the product as it stands right now. I trust TR to roll it out sensibly, managing numbers to ensure stability and quality. I don’t see the benefit in TR trying to precisely forecast when every subscriber will get access … they’d just make themselves hostage to those prediction, and for what benefit…?

I guess I was more thinking it would be nice if you could have two lists.
1-Data sources that you are using i.e. you know they are useful) so stuff that if we invest in it (time/buy equipment) we know will be used. Maybe annotated with info on what data sources are less accurate and should be avoided and what are noticeably better then others. For example letting people know that optical hr won’t give good HRV during workouts or a list of rankings of trainers so we know if one is better for training or not.
2- things that you are sure to at least try and see if its useful.

Don’t expect to give full details to give away your plans so guessing list 2 will be small but to help direct how we sync all our data (scale data), spend our time (like using HRV4training), toys we buy next (I mean very important tools…)

I take your liking my post about recording HRV during warm up and cool down means that might be a possibility. I have a feeling that the before workout measurement will correlate closely to the morning HRV measurement, not as good but most of what you need for TR. And that you would have full control over and everyone who uses a chest strap could benefit.

I wonder if any of the new metrics from power meters would be useful. For example torque effectiveness and pedal smoothness. My thinking is the more worn out you are the worse your muscle control will be so those value will fall

No, sure, and just to be clear, I am super excited and thought it was a very successful announcement with lots of geeky goodness and substance. As we say in German, I was complaining on a very high level (= being nitpicky).

@Nate_Pearson
I have a question regarding choosing or adjusting training “volume”: starting from a MV Plan Builder plan I built myself a MV+ plan by adding Z2 workouts and upping the difficulty of workouts so that the TSS lies roughly half-way between MV and HV. How would I do that with AT? E. g. for the fun of it, I asked Train Now to suggest me a 30-minute workout after a long SS workout, but it just shrugged and gave me no suggestions for endurance workouts. Interestingly, it did give me suggestions in the two other categories. So it seems I was going against the grain of the system.

It’d be nice if I could suggest AT to increase my training volume to “xxx TSS” (I know TSS is not an optimal measure of volume, but I can’t think of any other numerical knob that I can crank up/down). With AT I don’t see much reason that you need to stick to LV/MV/HV plans, the system seems more flexible than that.

We’re going to have an in between plan that will make this possible.

sorry edited the post instead of a separate post

Need to make it scalable though:

SELECT IF(`theFuture`, "Ramp Test Result", "FTP") as FTPLabel FROM `trainerRoad`.`users` WHERE `username` = "XXXXX";

That way you can just have a field in the users table :slight_smile:

Not using a parameterized query… Also just have a generic boolean colum to know how to treat them for other things. :-p

@Nate_Pearson: will AT have the capacity to email my wife with the message “Michael has plateaued in his training. He needs a new bike with. The specs we suggest would retail at about $7000.”

I will do this for $100 :rofl:.
