🎉 🎉 🎉 Introducing Adaptive Training! 🎉 🎉 🎉

I get that that’s the long term point of Train Now when it co-exists with plans and AT. But technically you can click and use the Train Now function right now whether you’re in a plan or not. So is it maybe making a more AT informed choice for a workout when looking at the same duration and energy system?

Time should always be your secondary concern. First should always be what adaptations/energy systems are you looking to train.

There is a ton of room for error to pick the wrong type of workout suggested by TN.

:

And that tag line “the right workout, every time”…just no. Understood it’s marketing, but it’s wrong.

Interested to watch the evolution.

Feel free to tell my boss that :stuck_out_tongue:

Thankfully TR don’t go from internal beta straight to “released to the masses”

Sort of. TrainNow will give you a recommendation based on your current progression levels, but there are caveats if you are following a training plan.

  1. For your use case, choosing a “climbing” workout would give you either Sweet Spot or Threshold. You could certainly refresh things until you get a threshold workout of the same type as your scheduled workout though.
  2. Your scheduled workout falls within a specific sub progression within the Threshold progression. Think Over Unders vs. long intervals that don’t change. TrainNow will give a mix of these sub progressions when it makes a recommendation.

If you can refresh until finding a workout that falls within the same progression (Threshold) and looks similar to Darwin in structure, then you would be closer to what AT thinks than your regularly scheduled workout.

I think it is worth noting that TrainNow was designed with athletes who either supplement their outside training with TR workouts, or athletes that just want to open the app and go without following a plan. Previously if you fit into this camp you were met with 2000+ workouts and no idea which of those workouts were accomplishable based on your recent training.

Hi. First time on the forum.
Tried to listen to the podcast about adaptiv training while managing the kids playing in the yard.
I’ve trained with Trainingpeaks for a while and use the training plan or use a coach for the last 4-5 years. I’ve found out a few things about myself and my life that I would like the Adaptiv Training to take into account.
I used to ride to and from work before Covid. Now I ride 30 min easy 4 mornings a week before breakfast and before everyone else wake up. I do strength training every Monday and Friday, ride with my buddies every Saturday morning. So will I be able to put this in the calendar and let the Adaptiv training figure out the Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday workout? Wednesday is my day off. Wifes day out.

Understood and agreed
But there’s a difference in releasing the beta to those like myself who requested it and understand that it may have some bugs vs not knowing when it will be available after listening to all the advantages in said program.
Just my opinion

Don’t misunderstand, I LOVE trainer road. It’s just that I think this new program will address many of the struggles I’m currently having and am eager to start it.

You can thank a certain Youtuber for that.

Not gonna name drop, but let’s call him Jylan.

No no. That’s too obvious. Let’s call him Mr Dohnson.

And if my “pause” is meant to relieve myself? :grinning:

From the responses on threads like the one for Master’s Plans it now seems like it was close to being announced regardless. Those who’ve been on the closed alpha/beta testing might care to comment when they were invited to try it out, I suspect they started several months ago, so once that part of the rollout was felt to have met whatever criteria had been decided on then it was time to move to the next phase. Whether that point has been brought forward could be (and will be) argued over but without internal TR knowledge there’s little point in doing so.

Features like Plan Builder and the Calendar underwent a similar genesis (sorry for the further unintended film related pun) so it does look like TR’s modus operandi: internal testing; limited user testing; larger beta programme; full release.

Has anyone had their Beta access invite yet?

I’m a TR sub. replied about 3 hours after the announcement, haven’t received an invite yet.

I think Nate said that it already does that.

I believe the original group of us who were brought in to test started in June, and it went through September. The early iteration I believe was only adjusting to missed workouts and by the end I was getting suggestions for easier workouts based on, for example, my turning down the intensity of intervals from 118% to 110% on a workout, for example. The progression classifications weren’t in place then but it was clear by the end that this was going in an interesting direction.

I think it’s somewhat cynical to think they hastily rolled this out because of Dylan’s video. Maybe it provided some impetus to finally get it in the open, but I think they had done a lot more work to get it pretty close to a beta rollout.

What’s clear is a lot of people are really fickle and demanding, and TR is often in a no-win situation where nothing is good enough. For a while people were annoyed at lack of masters plans, or annoyed with lack of options between low-mid-high volume, or whatever. Now that they get their next step revealed, people aren’t satisfied that it isn’t rolling out quickly enough to most users. There’s a guitar builder on youtube who says at the end of videos “if you think you can do better, build it yourself” I think the same needs to be said when people talk about training products

Oh totally. Some of the demands ( or actually DEMANDS!!!) people voiced in “the thread” were truly bananas

I still believe this was the announcement they were planning to make after Christmas but couldn’t because they hit some bugs and had to push it back. Instead, we got some weird news about Jonathan’s new bike. I didn’t buy it at the time, but it makes more sense now.

Yes, this was also definitely brought forward due to the DJ video. However, I think they were probably being overly cautious given a bug took the system down for a couple of weeks.

“I paid my money, ignored what the product actually is, am hanging onto my POV, and demanding that my POV gets delivered or else!” :joy: always makes me think of this scene https://youtu.be/8shdlcJjAJ8

They need increased testing to make sure it’s bullet proof. You can’t get that much variety on testing without starting to open it up, and once you start opening it up, the cat will be out of the bag anyway.

One other motivation for introducing AT at this juncture is that they are about to release the new Android and ios apps,. Which frankly don’t seem much better than the previous version. This could leave customers wondering if trainerroad isn’t going anywhere. By announcing now, we all realize that the app update was done to pave the way for AT.

Personally the new app is much better. Obviously its super individual but there’s just no comparison in my book.
