🎉 🎉 🎉 Introducing Adaptive Training! 🎉 🎉 🎉

Currently, AT only updates your FTP after a test protocol (generally a ramp test) or if you manually change your FTP. So it essentially is no different than it was prior to AT.

FTP prediction is not currently offered by AT, but is being tested internally at TR for the future. There is no clear timeline on when this feature will be pushed out.

I just read my reply from support, and I can add the moving of workouts via the Plan Builder scheduled days managed to disassociated my planned workouts from Plan Builder and subsequently from AT, hence the auto revert to non adapted workouts.

For completeness, one day of the week managed to stay linked and adapted, but the rest reverted.

As @ellotheth said, the initial problem is a Plan Builder one, but given AT’s current dependence on PB, it has been submitted as an AT bug.

In the meantime, once I have got the plan reestablished, I’ll only make changes via the late change as per your post

Does this also apply if you messed up the workout days when setting up PB? I screwed up and placed 3 of my MV workouts on the same day every week. When i realized that I went back into PB (I did not drag and drop within the calander) and moved the workout days to the correct days of the week that I wanted.

Well… that was disappointing again :disappointed: Just took my third ramp test after completing SSBaseMV2. When I started AT, my first ramp test was 225, Ramp Test after SSBaseMV1 was down -3, and the Ramp Test I just rook after SSBaseMV2 stayed the same @ 222.

In both Base 1 and 2, I have accepted all adaptations, finished almost all workouts at easy/moderate with a few hard. I have not failed any workouts. Obviously, I am disappointed I am not improving (in terms of FTP) over the last 2 months, but I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing this?

It could be that I am just bad at ramp tests, although I do feel I am going all out. Also, looking at my progressions over base 1&2, the progressions are pretty gradual. For example, Before my test at the end of Base 1, I performed Temple -1 (4.1). Since my FTP dropped, it dropped my progressions some, and I built back up to Temple 4.2 at the end of Base 2. This is all based on AT recommendations. Base 2 introduced VO2 but the hardest workout that I did was Grassy Ridge (3.1) which is 30/30 at 115%. Looking at my workouts maybe I shouldn’t have expected it to be much different. I wonder if AT progressions are too gradual, or maybe that is what is intended.

I can’t say for sure. At one point we thought that changing within the PB was “safe”, but I think I say comments from a user that said it still caused issues.

If you are getting changes in your Progression Levels, and not seeing suggested adaptations with related workouts, I suspect it is “broken”.

So I’m planning for some disruptions to my weekend and am thinking of shifting Saturday’s workout to Friday and just have a back to back tough days since Sat and likely Sunday will be nothing. If I’m reading you correctly, I should just pick the workout manually on Friday as opposed to shifting the workout from Sat into the Friday slot?

be careful with this. i did a ramp test on super fatigued legs and pulled the pin. 287w.
I had been at 325ish, so i manually knocked it down to 310 because i knew i could handle those workouts no problem.
Problem was that AT thought everything at 310 was an overreach and so my progression levels were all at 1.0.
The first two weeks of workouts were FAR too low, and so i’ve been manually having to populate my calendar to get progression levels to where they should be at 310. Certainly not the point of AT, but its a gap in current system.

Moving it on the Friday should work fine from what I am reading, and then you won’t need to deal with deleting or missing the Saturday workout and potentially confusing AT

Ok, so it seems all I need is to be admitted into the AT beta then

Agreed. I’ve been doing a lot or riding around aerobic threshold, and the hard line between 74% being endurance and 75% being tempo is odd. For levels below FTP there should be more of a linkage - certainly if I can do 2 hours at 75% I could also do two hours at 74%. Right now these are rides in completely different categories. Also, as I understand it increasing/decreasing the percentage in the ride won’t change this, so if you do a 75% ride and reduce it 1%, it will still be a tempo ride.

Does anyone recall whether your plan created in Plan Builder was instantly adapted to your Progression Levels, or did you have to wait until you completed the Ramp Test or a workout at/around your current PL to trigger the initial adaptation from the standard plan?

I’m just trying to resurrect my plan after it became disassociated with Plan Builder and AT.

Thanks for posting this! I am off the bike for what is best described as illness. I do not see much change. Tomorrow I’m going to try to TrainNow to ease back into my AT Planbuilder work after a sporadic 3-weeks.

Maybe TR needs to consider snapshotting Progresion Levels (PL) whenever an FTP change event occurs (via test protocol or manual), so that if that FTP change is subsequently discarded/reverted by the user, the prior PL state can be restored? Something that lets you quickly get back to where you were without you having to do a bunch of manually selected workouts to try to adjust your levels back to where they should be.

I’d stick some feedback into Support over this, because a load of people will bump into this issue in good time, and it could be quite frustrating.

Is this the place to report bugs? I’m in the adaptive training beta. An outdoor ride I did yesterday shows up in the Trainerroad web calendar, including heart-rate based TSS, but the ride doesn’t show up in the Mac and iOS apps, including numerous app restarts and refreshes.

Bugs should be reported to support@trainerroad.com.

Can we access the progression chart and make changes ourselves? And how do you find out if you have access to adaptive training in TR?

It adapted right away for me.

I’m gonna try my first outside workout with AT on a 45 on/off workout. I have a 1 -1.5 min hill nearby that I can use, and plan to find the section best for turning around at top and bottom. Biggest concern is that the timing of rest interval is going to be somewhat imprecise with navigating around and descending.

Any tips?

I’m using a garmin FWIW.

You will receive and email with instructions about how to connect to the AT Beta.

No, you can not really make many changes the the Progression Levels like i think you mean. The only way to alter the PLs besides through a completed workout is to manually change your FTP, that lowers the PLs.

Just get as close as you can. Doesn’t need to be perfect. A known bug has been classifying most outdoor workouts as struggles in AT at the moment anyway, so I wouldn’t be too concerned about nailing the rest intervals so much as trying to nail the work intervals. Also, I believe on both Garmin and Wahoo you can pause the workout but keep the ride recording, so there’s nothing wrong with doing that to make sure you’re set up for safety while doing the workout.
