Initial thoughts on diet adjustment

@Abe_Froman as I said earlier, I’m too old, don’t have the energy to debate!! I’m not debating with anyone […hope I’m not! Hope my tone has been as intended!], and don’t even want to persuade anyone, if they’re really set on loving sugar, that’s their jam. Cool stuff. So I really don’t need or want to waste my time digging up too too many “sources to back up”, etc. I’ve shared a few that I thought were neat / relevant.

I’m just sharing info, and chatting, for those who are interested to learn, or rather see a different perspective. I think some people would be. And I’ve enjoyed the chat, and answering questions, so far.

Surely you understand though, that when you say things that directly contradict accepted reality, debate is the only logical outcome, yes?

Me neither unless people can show me some peer reviewed paper that back up their claim that the consumption of animal products causes any harm but I know that I won’t have to debate those because such papers do not exist

There’s no such reality. As someone with both an degree in medicine and dentistry I can tell you most doctors just read a news article that sites of some study in Nature or Lancet that says meat causes cancer or cardiovascular disease without ever reading the paper because it’s in Lancet or Nature so it’s good. I think I am very apt to know that MDs are basically completely ignorant about anything related to oral health

A twist of the knife

I’ve done it before, and really stuck with Z2 and it was fine but i just really like my longer hard efforts and im generally able to maintain weight and not have issues with blood sugar crashes while eating a variety of foods.

I’ve made some changes with regards to sweet breakfats and i stopped drinking regular soda, though i do love a coke after an event.

If i was going to do anything beyond working out more than basically everyone that isnt also an endurance athlete to improve my health it would probably be stopping drinking.

I do IF during the week and will do fasted rides (electrolytes and water only), and ill cut back some on carbs on days when I’m not riding.

Yeah, but they died without cavities, so they had good looking teeth in their coffins.

He’s dismissing things that aren’t specifically listed as causal, it’s the little corner he’s carved out for himself and he thinks it makes him right.

Correlation doesn’t equal causation, so that doesn’t proof anything. Meat has been vilified for decades and there are just too many confounders. So still waiting

Haven’t read the entire thread so not sure if this has been addressed, but humans are the only animal on the planet to do a lot of things.

Humans are the only animal on the planet to change their mode of transportation. E.g., driving cars. Would humans be healthier if we walked everywhere instead of drove? On average, sure. However, the claim that I cannot be healthy if I drive is a silly notion. Likewise, the general population might be healthier if we ate an all natural diet. However, that does not mean I cannot be healthy if I eat pizza.

Moreover, comparing humans to animals that can only digest certain goods is not directly applicable. It reminds me of a researcher that said sharks don’t eat vitamin C and they don’t get scurvy so why do humans need to?

I’ll probably bow out, but humans have spread all over the world because we can thrive oon a variety of diets.

That being said this is a forum associated with training for cyclists and there is clear consensus about carbohydrate intake and performance.

There are many examples of species in captivity that failed to thrive or breed because they weren’t fed their species appropriate diet.

Incidentally all animals can digest meat but it requires special adaptations to digest plant foods and we humans lost much of our coecum where our cousins the great apes can still ferment/digest plant matter

Fot the rest eat the food that makes you happy but let us enjoy our meat and don’t tell falsehoods about meat consumption either. Live and let live

I’m trying to say this in the nicest way possible…because you seem to genuinely believe what you’re saying. But every statement you’ve made has no support whatsoever other than logic you’ve manufactured out of thin air, that in the most generous of terms could be called critically flawed.

You’ve got some idea in your head, and seem hellbent on believing and reinforcing it.

If it were false it would be easy to show some peer reviewed papers that would proof meat consumption causes CVD or cancer but so far you haven’t backed up any of your claims yet

We’ve already had this discussion, and I’ve already made clear I have zero interest in doing your research for you to prove things that I already am comfortable with my level of knowledge on.

If you want to be properly informed on the topic, YOU do some non-biased research.

I’ve looked and with both a degree in medicine and dentistry I think I am pretty qualified to know where to look and to judge what I have found. I have found nothing but maybe I have missed something and you can show me otherwise I’m done

Answer my previous question - what makes your view so special? Why are you right, and every other equally qualified professional is wrong?

Or are you also maintaining that you are not an outlier in your views on this?

The problem with your request is that you automatically reject any study showing these links as “correlation” and not “Causal”.

It is the same as arguing with a conspiracy theorist and when shown proof that they are wrong respond with “That is because it is all part of the conspiracy”.

There is no good faith discussion to be had.

Darn I was thinking I could blame red meat for my lack of teeth.

We can create our own reality in this thread, so you can still blame the red meat. :+1:
