Thanks. And to be clear didn’t mean to overlook your 620. That’s really impressive! But doubling that caught my eye and is quite the feat.
Thanks….COVID has cut down on my travel significantly so I’ve been able to really up the bike hours. Plus my kids are older and are never up before noon on the weekends, so that opens up plenty of time for long rides on the weekends.
It is all situational….we just make the most of our individual circumstances. As long as we are all improving, it is all good!!!
Last question…. With the significant increase in hours did you see much of a fitness bump? Any increase in shorter duration numbers or more ability to go long and not slow down?
I was talking with another guy who was really fit (5ish w/kg) who bumped up his volume to 20k ish miles and his easily measurable stuff didn’t go up a lot but he could just ride at big numbers for ever and not fatigue. He is in his mid 40s but was very competitive in longer gravel races and marathon mtb after several years of crit and road racing.
Definitely……but my FTP didn’t really go up. I’ve been at this long enough that I have probably tapped out in that regard. But I could go harder, longer across the board.
On our Tues / Thurs fast group rides, I went from taking my turns and getting off the front to getting to the front and tightening the screws. At the end of long rides, I’d still be rolling strong, etc. and my recovery time between efforts dropped too…so I could take a hard pull, take a short recovery and hit the front again.
VO2 Max stuff improved as well, but that is still an area of weakness for me.
470 on the bike, 220 running. And god knows how many hours spent swimming, but clearly not enough ![]()
428 this year. Aiming for 500+ in 2022.
What is that a picture from?

448 hours total, 202 hours of that outdoors (and 246 hours on TrainerRoad).
I’m not surprised it broke down like that - between winter forcing me indoors and a sweltering summer pushing me back in as well (plus wildfires), I simply didn’t get out for “real” riding as much as I’d have liked… Hoping to change that in 2022.
Strava says 540 but most of it was inside so maybe let’s call it an even 1,000? It sure felt like it!
In other news I think I watched all of Netflix, most of YouTube and a good chunk of Disney+.
Hoping for less of all of that in 2022. HNY all!
the above is my Garmin connect data… my strava tellls me 247hours in 175 activities. cant say why there is a difference, but I am still quite proud of these numbers.

527 for me on the bike per strava. Missed most of the last two months because of an international move, but also am ok if I don’t get to that number again. 2021 was a weird year, and I kind of hope I’m too busy traveling and hanging out with family to go for 600.
I finished the year at 461 hours (per Strava). Weight was mostly steady around 63kg and FTP ebbed and flowed between 250-260.
I’m not super happy with any of my numbers, but -news alert- I also have a family and business. My son started doing ultra-marathons, and because he is still quite young (16) I’m his primary support team and it just wipes out my weekend riding opportunities. OTOH, it’s rewarding as a Dad to support him.
About 7.5h outdoors and 1.5h indoors this year ![]()
513 hours for 2021! It was a solid year of training and fun.
995! just missed 1,000 ;-/
104 hours in 2021. About 60 hours less than 2020.
