Heat training in podcast #15

I like re listening those early podcasts. The information density on training was so huge…now the style has turned more on entertainment. Missing Chad!

Agree - have been listening to the entire podcast library over the past year, sure is a good bit of knowledge. Interesting to hear the swing in training/fueling theories, development of the teams riding, focus of events, Dexa scans, etc.

Wish new Pods included a diverse group of riders like before (knowledgeable experienced/older ‘ex-pro’, aspiring ‘near-pro’ and rapidly improving dedicated newbie…

not just the revolving series of … a pro and JL or nutritionist and JL…

Also interesting on Heat Training, which they cover indepth IIRC multiple times over the past many years… interesting to hear their opinions, use of it, experience… ebb&flow over the years (like many topics (strength work, carbs, etc)!

Interesting how some things have changed in just 10 years. In 2015 Chad talks about nutritional strategies. The advice was Endurance workouts early mornings fasted. High intensity workouts in the evening with glycogen deposits replenished. But no carbohydrates whatsoever post workout. Just a couple boiled eggs and go to bed with the hope that in the absence of carbohydrates the body will learn to metabolize fats more efficiently….
Now the advice is the more carbohydrates the better even in recovery rides
And torque workouts were dismissed as it was training in the heat…now everyone is doing heat training and low cadence high torque.
