I have a Cycleops Hammer H1, about 5-6 years old without any issues. The other day with two minutes left in my workout, the resistence stopped. Today I tried another workout and I saw a flashing red light on the trainer. I unplugged it, plugged it back in, no changes. I tried the Saris app to calibrate, no luck. I tried calibrating the trainer, changing from standard to erg mode, uninstalled and reinstalled Trainerroad, but still a flashing red light. Is my trainer toast or is it something else that I haven’t tried? Thanks in advance.
I don’t see anything on the Saris support site mentioning blinking red but you could try reinstalling the firmware.
How do I fix a solid red light on my trainer? – Saris
Could also be a faulty power supply.
According to this thread (Cycleops/Saris Hammer issue - what would you do? - The Bike Room - Bike Hub) the blinking red light indicates you may have experienced a power surge and may have blown internals on your trainer.
The funny thing is that two hours after posting I decided to try the Hammer again. This time I had a blue light followed by a green light. But when I started to pedal the green light went back to blue but there was no resistence. Should I be looking at a new trainer?
Yes. I have the same red blinking light on my H1 and then normal lights with no resistance and had to get a new one. I was lucky enough that my H1 was either still in warranty or close enough that they sent me a H3 and I recycled the H1. I would try reaching out to Saris to see if they might offer you something off a new H3 at least.
Its likely toast, its time for a newer one, you will like how much quieter the newer ones are over the H1.
