The evidence of alcohol causing cancer is indisputable at this point, there are numerous studies out there that show this.
This is not just some correlation thing, scientists are smarter than that when designing and executing their studies.
The mechanisms by which alcohol damages DNA, and causes undesirable cell replication are well-documented. It is not merely an association; alcohol is a cause of cancer.
Cancer itself is stochastic: lifelong smokers do not all get lung cancer… but this does not mean that smoking does not cause cancer - it absolutely does. Not everyone who drinks gets cancer, but alcohol causes cancer.
