šŸŽ‰ šŸŽ‰ šŸŽ‰ Group Workouts are here! šŸŽ‰ šŸŽ‰ šŸŽ‰

I created a group workout and added it to the google calendar. and my calendar. My question is do I just load the workout and add the code and it will know that i am the host? It doesn’t say anything about the workout on my own calendar being a shared one.

Right now first person in to the ā€œroomā€ is the host. Try and have the person with the hottest internet connection as the the host if you can.

@mcneese.chad: Is there a plan to add custom workouts in group rides? I coach with Purple Patch, and use their designed workouts and import in TR using Workout Creator. Would be great if this can be done as Group workout.

Did my first group workout with @paynegeorge and @joseph.kaye last night.

Was a great session with added motivation/accountability!

Great feature @Nate_Pearson and the team, well done TR!

Yes, and per Nate’s comments (in this weeks podcast, I think) it will be possible in the very next release.

Hi guys,

Whenever I try to join a group workout I get the error ā€œcould not join group workoutā€. Tried creating workouts and clicking ā€œcontinue to workoutā€ but got the same error.

Anyone come across this or know how to fix it?

Just one tyskie?

I experienced this today. First workout dropped connection. Stopped and began a new session and it happened again. Kept riding hoping for reconnection but nothing. Logged a ticket with TR support.

I am not that Chad (Coach Chad Timmerman).

I’m #TheOtherChad, just a forum moderator and active TR user.

And I forgot to answer your other question… we don’t know when the next release will be but I hope in the next week or two.

That’s gotta be a keyboard macro.

Went down surprisingly well, but I’m pretty sure a second during 30s VO2’s wouldn’t be!

Did first group workout this morning. Fun to see the beginning of this! My takeaways:

  • Was great for some motivation to push through the last of 20 minute intervals.

  • The names of the people in your workout are really small. Like, unreadable. Nice to see the names of the people you’re with…and where in the world they’re from.

  • Really would be nice to have Strava sync include who you rode with.

  • Can’t quite sort out the best approach to audio mic usage. Did a 1.5 hour ride and I really always listen to music and never with headphones. I guess out of politeness headphones are really needed, but wow, hot headphones on a sweaty head kinda suck…and earbuds just fall out. Is there a quick keyboard shortcut to turn on/off the mic? It’s fun to chat for a minute in rest intervals but using the settings is clunky.

  • I hope a more professional calendar function is in development. The Google solution works, sort of, but I feel that I’d personally not want my email and details like this out in world in a completely open format. Trust me, someone is culling all the email addresses that are posted…just saying.

  • On screen instructions would NOT work even after confirming they were on in the settings. Why?

Thanks, TR, for adding this component to your platform.

Couple things we’re adding:

  • Option for users to show their first name instead of their last name
  • Drop shadow on name so that you can see it better
  • Option to show country flag. Like this: :us: Nate

:100:

I say no talking in intervals and only music! On long endurance rides I keep the music at like 20% and talk. We plan on improving the music/audio controls around this.

We don’t support workout instructions in Group Workouts.

I also got the same error. No indication of what the fault is. It worked for me the other day.

Also, I have a (slightly niche) question from trying to run a group ramp test as a coach:

If I am hosting a test, I may not always be riding myself (therefore no power power input to my device). In that scenario, is it possible to end the test and start the cooldown once everyone is finished?

I did a test run on my own, however because it couldn’t calculate an FTP for me, it only gave me the option to continue the test, or to ā€œdiscardā€ the result which also ends the group workout and kicks me out. Ideally I would like to be able to stop the ramp, discard the result but then continue to a cooldown - is this possible?

@MattWTriCoach thanks for pointing this out! This is something we’re going to add in the ability to do. We agree you shouldn’t be removed from a Group Ramp Test if you choose to discard the result and have no power data. Really you should stay in the workout until you explicitly opt to leave the workout.
