If you can find a second hand MacBook or iMac from 2014 or newer you should be safe. They are all over FB Marketplace so shouldn’t be hard to find one for a good price.
I have a 2012 MacBook Air and have zero problems yet. Can’t comment as far as future iterations are concerned since my machine is old by tech standards but it still does the trick no problem. I also have a newer Lenovo Yoga Laptop which is technically my work computer, but Windows has major native bluetooth issues IME so I don’t bother using that anymore.
Just another person chiming in here. Did the first group workout this morning with 4. Only two of us could hear everybody. I was the only one that could see everybody. And one guy could only see and hear me and none of us could hear him. So kind of a mish mash of connection…
that being said - DESPITE THE ISSUES - we all thought this added GREAT value to the workout. The 90 minutes flew by! Looking forward to the perfecting of this!
That sounds like device setup issues. Gotta verify the setting for each device and connection set in the app is pulling the right device.
I know that my web cam can only have one connection, so if I accidentally leave my “Camera” app open, the TR app will not have access to it. I have to close the camera app, and then TR works.
Potentially similar issues for audio, especially if people are using Bluetooth headphones. They need to make sure the phones are paired to the PC/Mac, and not a phone or other mobile device.
Copy. Yes. I forgot to say that we’re not ruling out device issues. I’m going to do individual workouts with all of the guys and try to debug one on one.
Hosted one yesterday and got into the workout 10 min prior to see how to set it up. I had to change my sound settings to my bose soundsports for output and input. Others made some setting changes as well as I could not hear them.
Day prior my webcam was not working when I set it up but that was a computer issue where the cam was not enabled and nothing to do with TR.
Edit: i think this will happen to some people the first time as it is new.
A [seemingly] simpler idea to implement with [I believe] much broader TR user base appeal would be the ability during any workout just to be able to click on a “TR Discord button” and begin chatting with any other TR user similarly online. It would be similar to what is done during the annual TR User Group Disaster event, except that it would be much simpler with an in-app button.
Note: The difference in the ideas is that TR Group Workouts seem more like a way to compete with Zwift while the TR Discord button would be more of a worldwide TR community sharing, especially during this different period.
I used the GW for chat during stage 1 of the Zwift Haute Route ride tonight. Just 2 of us, but 8t was fun to have chat and see power and HR during it too.
I loaded it with FreeRide 120, but never even hit play. We just left it at the beginning and it worked great.
Planning to have 4 total on for stage 2 tomorrow. Fun to be able to work a bit of strategy live.
Hooked up a webcam to my workout PC in the garage, but lighting was horrible (all lights are behind me). Added some LED strips to the sides of the TV. This seems to do well for the webcam not sure how it will be to look at while working out though. Probably will help with on-trainer selfies too
Does anybody know if trainer noise is detected? I have a Tacx Vortex Smart Trainer. They are pretty noisy - is this an issue? I don’t want to join a workout and ruin it due to noise…
That depends a bit on the location and quality of your microphone. Forward location of a laptop or web cam can be far enough way to minimize trainer noise, at least a lower speeds.
We had a couple of guys with a decent setup, and I could hear their Saris M2 trainers spin up in the higher gears. But for normal riding in small ring or slower big ring gears should be fine overall.
Any plans to instead of use Google calendars, any plans to build that capability within the TR app. So that you can invite people from the app and obliviously schedule workouts.
Does anyone know what the system requirements are for the Group Workout feature? Another user and I are having connectivity issues during our workouts and I’m trying to narrow down a possible solution.
Is there a way to schedule a group workout? I go through the motions of setting up a group workout for (tomorrow morning) and it takes me immediately to the workout. I’d like to take one of my workouts, set it up to be a group workout, send my buddies the code, then show up in the morning to do the workout. Seems like there’s an opportunity here I think :); Either to educate me about something that’s already possible or make a tweak to the platform. Great stuff! Very enthusiastic!
It is a little confusing at first honestly as you think you need to do something when you schedule the workout.
As @mcneese.chad mentioned the code is for that workout name and not a time.
As an example you had 5 TR sessions this week with 5 different “workouts”. You would create a different group workout for each one which generates 5 codes. Each code is specific to the workout. Code A = Monitor, Code B = Baxter, etc.
You can close TR and when you log back in put in the code (join box) for the “workout” associated and off you go. If you want others to join just tell them the time you will be on (time is all your schedule) and give them whichever code is associated.
If you are doing Monitor again in the future you can reuse the code you originally generated or create another one. Hope that helps clarify and definitely put them in the calendar and post on the thread if you want any chance to have people join outside of your immediate contacts of course.
