I have a Garmin Forerunner 35 which has a wrist based heart rate monitor. I was hoping to use this with trainer road (when on my smart trainer) but I can’t seem to add this device within Trainer road. I can get my other HRM (Wahoo) but not the Garmin. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make this work?
It might be a pain: Forerunner 35 - Broadcasting Heart Rate Data to Garmin Devices
I don’t know whether your TR device would detect that, /or/ whether you would need to send that data to a head-unit first…
Should be possible - according to DCRainmaker, from his FR35 review:
“Garmin does allow you to re-broadcast your optical HR values via ANT+ to other devices (such as an Edge cycling device or trainer apps like Zwift and TrainerRoad).”
I have a forerunner 35, I just tried there connecting it to TR on my IPad and it worked no bother, I use a wahoo ant+ dongle as I prefer to use my Garmin cadence sensor rather that the value from the trainer itself
It also connects to my edge without any issues
I have a Garmin Forerunner 235. Both TrainerRoad/Zwift (I have an ANT+ usb dongle) and my Wahoo Element Bolt are able to pick it up if I set it to heart rate broadcast mode.
That being said, while I feel like I get fairly accurate data running or hiking with from the watch, it’s all over the place cycling; so I generally only use it for commuting or recovery workouts on the trainer and defer to my Garmin chest strap for “serious” workouts, long outdoor rides, and racing.
I have difficulty pairing mine with anything other than my Garmin. Having said that I’m not too bothered as most of the time it’s just a random number generator. When I can be bothered I’ll compare it with my Tikr HR strap on
DCR’s analyser.
