The recent update has messed up my 840. After the update the 840 froze. I had to do a soft reset . Now when plugged into my Mac it will not allow the Garmin connect app to load. If I unplug the 840 the app will boot. If I plug in the 840, Garmin connect says not connected. I get the spinning beach ball for a few minutes. The device used to mount on the desktop but according to Garmin they removed this in the recent update. I have tried deleting the app and reloading it. I put Garmin app on my Iphone got syncing to work via Bluetooth. Also if the 840 is plugged into my laptop for charging and the laptop lid is closed the 840 freezes and drains the battery. I have tried on 2 different Mac book pros and get the same issues.
Anybody have similar problems or a fix?
Cheers
The latest firmware changes the mass storage usb connection to MTP (media transfer protocol). There might be some things you can troubleshoot
Found this in dutch… Maybe google translate if it does not redirect
Fortunately you can syc and update the *40 series via wifi.
I think that @GPLama mentioned some beta settings on YouTube but not sure if those are applicable to Mac.
Have experienced something very similar. I’m hoping Garmin gets it sorted out with software updates.
My edge 540 will no longer synch completed rides to my Garmin Connect iPhone app. This happened after I updated to the latest 540 software on Dec 26th.
The 540 does connect with my iPhone Garmin Connect app - but my completed rides no longer synch.
Really frustrating. I have emailed Garmin Support. Let’s hope they come back with something better than “check your Bluetooth and WiFi connections, and update to the latest software”…. We’ll see…
Update. I am able to sync/send completed rides to Garmin Express via my phone via blue tooth and Wi-Fi. However even with the last update the 840 will not connect or be recognized via Bluetooth, USB or Wi-Fi to the laptop Garmin app. Have no idea how to send a TR workout to the device if Garmin connect won’t see it on my laptop.
