Free Ride Unlimited

Are all the Free Rides time-specific? I’m looking for a free ride workout without a time limit.

Yes, all are time limited. The longest is 6 hours so if you need longer time, you will need to run additional ones after that 6hr cap.

Noob question:

I’m using TR with Zwift by running them separately. What’s the purpose of loading up a free ride in TR than just, ride? Will free ride count towards progression levels while “just ride” won’t? Thanks!

Free ride won’t be any better in that regard, since it has no targets, Workout Levels, etc.

I think you can just pick an easy workout like Taku and extend the cool down indefinitely. That’s usually what I do. Just keep clicking the +10min button.

That’s what I now do. I used to use Free Ride but switched to a normal z2 workout because you can’t extend Free Rides.

Not being able to extend free ride :exploding_head:…now that is some thick irony

I struggle to understand why a 6hr max isn’t enough.

I imagine that 99.9% of the time it would be. I was going to say maybe an vEverest attempt but you probably wouldn’t be doing a TR workout for that. To be honest, 6 hours on a free ride workout sounds like actual hell on earth to me. Maybe super ultra endurance racers? Or a new Saw “game?”

It’s plenty. However, if you don’t do all 6 hours it’s leaves an odd and unappealing workout image. Also, more difficult to read at first glance, when looking back at previous years. Most notably when you load a 6 hour Free Ride and only do a 2 hour workout. This is clearly more of a preference thing and I just don’t like it. It doesn’t effect the training, just my OCD!

I like TrainerRoad’s app. I ride Z2 on Zwift, so the ride isn’t usually time-specific. It’s not a big deal, but maybe they could add a Free Ride option without a time limit, with 10min intervals. 10min intervals serve as reminder for me to hydrate. :grimacing:

Great idea. Thanks. I’m going to give this method a lash, and see how it goes. :ok_hand:

What workouts do you pick?

I’m doing this a lot lately on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Then Gibbs when I only need 2 hours. I use Pettit for 1 hour.

It would be great if you could implement extend the ride on all of free rides.

Cool. I’ll add that to my favourite list. Thank you :+1:t2:

Good point. I’d like to see an untimed Free Ride. I really like TR’s app and use it all the time indoors, even when I’m riding on Zwift or Rouvy. I find the 10-minute interval alerts great for reminding me to drink.
