Fred Whitton 2026... One Year TR to Fred 2027

So, just helped (domestique) a couple of club members complete the Fred Whitton 2026 with their goal times of sub 9 hours (they went 8 hours 30!)

I’m considering using TR for the next year and locking in, aiming for a 6 hour 30 time (I’ve done it 3 times, only went for a time once about 3/4 years ago, went 7 hours 20, big time cramp 70 miles in, was well on for sub 7).

My FTP is hovering round 4 watts per kg, I sacked cycling off and have been fell running with a bit of turbo cross training, doing the fred the other day (atmosphere) has drawn me back!

Is there absolutely any way I can continue to do some fell running and still advance with TR custom plans? Looking through my red light green light, fell running even up to a couple of hours (all zone 1/2 stuff) doesn’t seem to trigger even a yellow day quite a lot of the time)… I know the AI is set up for cycling, but what are peoples experiences with cross training and RLGL?

I DETEST 1 hour endurance rides with a passion lol… could I maybe replace these with 1 hour fell runs, strict zone 2… up and down a fell maybe? I’ve done fell running for years so it’s not particularly taxing on my body…

And lastly… should I just put the fred date in on the custom training plan and follow it for a year from now? When I do, seems to give me a couple of blocks of base, build, speciality in that rotation.
