I have same situation: in summer I upgraded from Stages L only to Asioma Duo and now know i have a 55/45% asymmetry (left is stronger). I see it as potential: my left leg produce 22% more power! Imagine if I could teach my right leg to do same as left one: that would be 11% bump.
Stages L value match the Left Assioma.
I believe the asymmetry came from 5 yrs of riding with a Left only Stages. I would “take it easy” on the right leg and wouldn’t notice it on the reported power so over a long time left power got reinforced by feedback loop and right didn’t.
DUring recent pedaling focus instructions, I can get it to be close to 50-50 so there’s hope.
I’ve been riding with LR data now for several months and whilst there’s plenty of data to look at, I seldom do look at it. What I have noticed is that my LR variance changes with different power output and/or cadence, so it’s not a ‘uniform imbalance’ across all scenarios.
If I am on the Kickr, sometimes I’ll toggle to the cycling dynamics screen on my Garmin and just have a look at the numbers to see what’s happening. Even with just a little focus I can reduce the imbalance and even make my weaker right leg put out more power than myeft. Although it feels unnatural at this point in time.
One of my plans for the year is to do a bit of strength training on the legs, which will include some single leg work in the gym and some single leg drills on the bike.
Maybe it’ll help me squeeze a few more watts from my weaker leg, or maybe it won’t ![]()
Got the Favero Assioma Duo in last week and boy was that a reality check.
Been using the Elite Direto for the past year and it reads like 20w higher than the Faveros, which is weird considering it reads power further down the drive train.
Always found it weird why I’d progress so fast in power when training on the Direto, turns out it’s not very accurate, at least in my case. So from now on I’m using the Faveros as the source of truth, take this one time ego hit and lower my ftp.
Dumb/odd question. If I went with the single sided set up, is the other pedal basically “dumb”? Could I just leave my Look Keo in place instead of putting both Assiomas on? Can you designate which pedal, left or right, you want to be the “active” pedal when you order it? The reason I ask is that I have read about difficulties unclipping from the Assiomas. I unclip on the left, but have had extensive surgeries on that knee. I’d prefer to leave my Look in place on the left (doesn’t bother me currently when I clip out) and put the Assioma on the right
I think the single sided is typically left only. Yes the other pedal is dumb. I think they offer a right only pedal as a double sided “upgrade”. I have the assioma favero dual pedals and have no issues clipping in and out with the factory tension granted I don’t have any knee issues.
You may want to consider the pedals being different in terms of distance from crank and centering dynamics through the pedal stroke when using two different pedals but it may not matter and you can probably get used to any difference I’m feel.
Also if you get the new Assomia’s they have a black spring which has less release tension than the original set. Which is where I believe most of the issues have come from.
I’ve got the new spring and haven’t noticed anything with clipping in/out and haven’t touched them from the factory setting
@Epouss2 is correct where the single sided is left only, I don’t think they do a right only even if you buy both pedals.
This is normal.
I purchased mine a couple months ago. I just went look and they do have a black tension spring which is still set from the factory. Maybe this is why I haven’t had any issues. Even if someone did feel that they were stiff, there’s still much room to lower the tension.
Interesting… I ran my Assioma’s for a while with my Direto on powermatch and did not notice much of a difference…
How did you run your compare ?
This may sound a silly, but anyone have issues with the bearings being too smooth? My area has lots of traffic lights and its is always a pain for me to clip in while moving off from the traffic lights.
Linked my Direto to Zwift, running in ERG and my Faveros to my head unit.
Though I may just have a crappy monday morning unit because I’ve already had 1 belt snapped and power supply replacement in 1 year. Overall I’m not impressed with the Direto.
Everyone has issues with the bearings being too smooth - they could do with adding a bit of weight to the back so they settle quicker.
Hello all,
I have a second road bike that I mostly use for commuting and winter riding, and since we live in a small apartment only the good bike is allowed inside and the second one lives on the balcony. I was considering to get the assioma duo pedals for it, but I’m wondering if it is ok to store them outside? The bike does not get rained on or anything, just there are large variations in temperature and air humidity based on the weather.
My bikes are in the garage with the temperature a degree of too warmer than the outside and i have seen no issues in two years.
What are the lowest temperatures you get in your area?
I guess my biggest worry is how the battery will hold up against being in negative celsius degrees for extended periods of time.
The operating temperature is minus 10 according to the hardware specs… doesn’t say anywhere what storing at low temp would do to battery life though. I’ve kept mine is a cold wooden shed for a year with no issues. Prob around the -5 to 0 degree range in winter.
I am in the UK so winter isnt as cold as some on this forum. we do go to negative celsius but not for prolonged periods.
@kevistraining, @Olly, sounds promising. Thanks a lot for the replies!
Does anyone has a specific order how to calibrate?
I switch between three bikes, trainer, road and mtb. And everyone has different cranklenght.
My way is to change cranklenght on my garmin head unit, then i calibrate sucessfully, and then i start ride and when the favero is selfcalibrated it sends the power to my the garmin. Takes around a few seconds.
So i dont do any sprints or so on.
Anyone have any thought´s… Just dont wanna do the wrong way, so the favero gives “wrong” numbers
Hi @foxyscott - I’m getting this same issue with my right pedal going out of calibration. Sometimes it drifts towards 0 power, sometimes it drifts upwards to several times the left pedal power readings.
Was your issue cured by the spindle swap from Favero?
Cheers
