Youngster. SPD-SLs came out in the early aughts, right? For me, that’s a recent innovation. I think Looks came out in the mid 80s. Those were arguably the same basic mechanism and design.
Back in the simple days when you didn’t clip-in to clipless pedals
Right. I used toe-clips and straps, and sometimes cleats to capture the shoe in the pedal. There was no quickly un-clipping with toe-clips straps and cleats. I had to release the strap before I could get my foot out.
How much float to the MX-2’s have? I’ve ridden time ATAC’s for at least the past 25 years. I run the cleats in the 17 degree release position. I’m assuming that I have at least 10 degrees of float. I also ride the Speedplay x/2’s on the road with a bunch of float. Anyone go from Time ATAC to MX-2’s and have any issues? Thanks.
Good question, I’m in the same boat.
It’s mainly the cleats that determine float.
Shimano SM-SH51 SPD cleats have a 13 degree release angle and 4 degrees of float.
That should be enough. I haven’t heard of people having an issue with the float of SPD cleats.
I run Speedplay on road and MX-2s on gravel, no issue with the float on the MX-2s. I feel that it’s quite loose, not uncontrolled, but rather a good free float that doesnt force my foot.
I also tried Assioma Duo, and they felt quite similar to Speedplay honestly.
For me the free float shouldn’t require force to use it, like on Shimano where it wants to center the foot all the time.
Why i havent tried them in the assioma pedals, Look cleats are spd compatible and have 6 degrees of float (2 more than shimano).
Look work fine in shimano pedals, so i assume they work here too.
Thank you. I see Look makes a X-Track Easy version of their cleat that has 6 degrees of float and 13 degree release angle. These should get me close to my current setup.
I reached out to Favero to see if the Look cleats would work with their pedals. Here was their response. They would not confirm or deny.
"Thanks for your kind email and please accept our apologies for the late reply.
We have hundreds of requests and we are doing our best to reply everybody in the shortest time possible.
We inform you that Assioma PRO MX is compatible with the Favero Assioma cleats provided or the original Shimano® SM-SH51 and SM-SH56.
I remain at your complete disposal for any further information you might need and, in the meantime, please accept my"
Thats a strange one, my pedals came with SM-SH56 cleats. I also ordered them within a few days of them being available for sale. Maybe they didnt have their own branded cleats at that time?
Just a hack for the road pedals (maybe this is a bad thread to mention this), Wellgo makes the cleats for them and you can get them very cheap on ALI
I bet they havent tried, so they cant say they do. I f you do give it a go, post up if Look do or dont work
How’s the battery life been for everyone with mx-2?
I’m getting maybe 20-30 hours before I have to recharge. No where near 60 hours, they are a little over a year old. Curious if anyone else has noticed this?
They’ve been out long enough that people would have figured this out if it was wide spread problem. Try contacting Favero support.
I can’t say that I’ve actively tracked it. I often charge them when they’re down to 25% give or take anyway. That being said, 60-ish hours feels about right. I for sure get well over 40 before I charge, easy.
I did send a message to support but I also like asking people who use them. I ride 10-12 hours a week and have to charge them every 2-3 weeks.
I’ll report what Favero tells me.
I did 25 hours riding at the weekend and it seems the battery life is down to about half to two thirds, so I reckon their estimated overall battery life wouldn’t be too far off.
Bike radars has an article on them today. It looks interesting that you can have them set up for say road and swap them over to offroad without buying the whole set up again as the power meter is separate from the pedal body.
Yeah I’ve already got a set of single sided MX and I’m thinking I’m gonna buy a RS dual side upgrade and a left RS pedal body and i’ll end up with all the parts I need for a dual sided set I can swap between SPD and SPD-SL
But i’m hoping that look compatible pedal bodies aren’t too far away so I can get those instead.
