Extending a workout - how to do it mid workout

I have the feeling that it is now possible to extend a workout. If you want to do another 15 minutes riding you can extend the length of the work out as you are in the workout. However I cannot see any instructions on how to do that.
If it is possible can someone please give me a pointer
