Event type handling in the plan builder

I noticed I had a couple events that are marked as “c” events. The plan builder added normal workouts around those (on the same day). Did I misunderstand what c means? I’m definitely doing those events but they won’t be at a race pace. I won’t be able to do the workouts. Should I have marked them as B events instead? My B events seem to be more properly scheduled in calendar to me.

C events essentially mean you are planning to do them with no change to your training. They are effectively slotted in place of a workout (if present on that day) with no adjustment before or after.

If you want some more accommodation, you should choose B.

Thanks for the reply!

That makes sense. So I should think of a C event as “maybe I’ll do it maybe I won’t” right? i.e, on the day of that event, I might rather do the workout, or maybe I’ll try to incorporate some of the qualities of that workout into the ride perhaps.

Yeah, it could be considered an “either/or” option. Do one or the other, and it doesn’t get prioritized any differently whether you race or do a workout. If the race mimics the workout, then great. But there are other reasons to race that make it acceptable if it doesn’t match the planned workout.

All that depends on your goals and what you want to get out of the C event (fun, skills, race tactics, etc.) and any other options where an event differs from a workout.

Interesting. I have weekly Saturday “C” races for a 2 month stretch later this year and Plan Builder just replaced those workouts with the race. The rest of the plan didn’t change at all. But it didn’t also add a workout. A “C” race should replace that workout so maybe there was a bug.

That’s my experience as well. [quote=“CaptainThunderpants, post:5, topic:28981, full:true”]

This is correct; on days where you have scheduled a “C” race, the Plan Builder should drop the regularly scheduled ride.

Could you reach out to Support to report this bug so that we can take a closer look?

Thanks!

Wait so this is a bug?

Ah I see what is going on here, let me clarify.

If you set an event as a C race at the time you initially setup Plan Builder, then the C race will replace your regularly scheduled ride. At the moment, we are not able to reprocess/adapt your plan for events that you change after the initial setup, but we are working on the logic for this as we speak.

As a side note, in your calendar, Utah Lake is simply added as an activity rather than a race. To add it as a race, you need to select that option when manually entering that event to Calendar :+1:.

Let me know if there is anything you’d like me to clear up.

So in this case, it is an activity, not a race. So it sounds like Plan builder did what it was programmed to then… which is basically ignore it and just put another workout on that day anyway.

To follow on this question. If I understand correctly above once I set up a plan the plan builder will not reprocess and change that plan if I add or change my key events.

So if I need to change my events (in my case timing of B and C events later in the year) I should first delete the current plan, update my events, and then add a new plan (presumably with the same start date as my original plan?) and Plan Builder will then build factor those revised events into the new plan.

Is this correct?

In the case of B and C races, we wouldn’t recommend deleting and re-processing your Plan Builder since the logic is fairly easy and you can add these events manually with relative ease.

For C races, simply drop the planned workout on the date of your C race and swap it for your event.

For B races, you will follow the same procedure but you can also choose to drop the ride the day before (if there is one) and insert a race opener workout.

In cases where your A race has changed, however, deleting and reprocessing your plan will be the best option since it will tailor your training to help you peak for your A priority events.
