Dr. Stephen Seiler on Training in a Pandemic (Fast Talk 106)

I have seen that injury before (albeit only once) in a recreationally trained cyclist who upped volume over about 6 week period for a community ride, while simultaneously NOT maintaining strength training. I’m inclined to think there is an association there.

Can I just add to this conversation: despite there being 2 or 3 very active polarized training threads going on this forum, the TR Podcast still refuse to even acknowledge the existence of this training model (who else is sick of ‘how to train with kids and a job’ questions?).

Yes, I get it, TR is build on the ideology of sweet spot training, but there are responders and non-responders.

In my view two things need to happen

  • TR Podcast acknowledge this model of training and discuss it’s pros/cons in depth.
  • TR develop a training plan that reduces/does away with sweet spot programming.

@Nate_Pearson @Jonathan Chad et al on you now.

I’m doing a low volume plan and adding about 8-10hrs week of easy outdoor riding. Seems to me that I’ve created a polarized plan with TR controlling the 20% part of the equation. It strikes a nice balance mentally and I trust TR to steadily progress my intensity whilst I get to daydream about nice bike rides I want to do.
