Downloading planned Workouts - How is this not a thing yet?

So I just signed up for TR and am about to start the test month to see if it’s for me or not. I’ve been planning to do it for a while and been actively reading on the forum and listening to the podcast episodes where the new AI Model was discussed.

What I absolutely did not expect was that it’s apparently not possible to simply download a planned workout to put it onto a different platform. I have used several cycling platforms in the past and am currently doing my indoor workouts on MyWhoosh. I like the visual stimulation, it makes the indoor rides less boring. Typically I create my workouts in TrainingPeaks or sync them directly. With TrainerRoad that’s not possible. There is neither a direct way to sync a workout to the TP Calendar or MyWhoosh, nor a way to do it manually. Which to me is honestly crazy since it’s a very basic feature.

When I asked support about it they told me straight up that I should use Zwift  So the “solution” is for me to pay another $20 a month? Kinda ridiculous. I understand that there might be reasons why a direct integration with Intervals.icu, MyWhoosh or TP might be complicated. But how is it possible, that I do not have a way to download a workout file from TR and then manually upload it to the platform of my choice?

It’s baffling to me that this isn’t a thing yet. Maybe there’s a workaround that someone in here knows? But either way, this should in my opinion be one of the highest development priorities. One would think that it’s in the interest of TR to make sure that there’s compatibility with as many platforms as possible, even if it’s just through manual file transfers?

You can always run both MyWoosh and Trainerroad apps at the sametime and let Trainerroad control the resistance of the ride while MyWoosh is used for the entertainment.

Before there was a direct integration between Zwift and TR that was what I did and I know many are doing it now with MyWoosh.

To my knowledge it’s not possible to connect 2 bluetooth devices to my trainer at the same time. would also mean that I need a second device for my setup to begin with.

I just find it pretty strange that such a basic feature isn’t available. Obviously I’d love a direct integration for TP/MW, but that even the option of a manual file transfer is missing is imho pretty wild.

What most do is to connect the trainer to TR with bluetooth and to MyWoosh with Ant+ (or the other way around).

I would assume that the missing download probably is to prevent people from downloading the entire plan and then cancelling their subscription to TR.

You can simply recreate the workouts if that was the intention. Probably could even use AI and just feed the power profiles into it and it would give you the info. MyWhoosh workouts are for example just a text syntax you can copy, so if the intent was to “steal” the workouts it would be fairly straightforward to tell an AI to do that.

For me it means that I now have to change my setup and get a second device, probably buy an ANT+ Dongle, or just stop using TR. I understand that I might be a bit of an outlier here, but for me the lack of integration is pretty disappointing. But yeah, I guess it is what it is

Just so you know, people have been asking for this for many years. I doubt it’s going to change any time soon. I’d set up the workaround with dual recording using Bluetooth/ANT+ if you don’t want to have to manually create the workouts (and with the new AI, you’ll have to wait until the day of to create it because otherwise the prescribed workout could change)

Agree. It’s something I wish they would do. I don’t know why they don’t. It’s not like they have secret sauce in their workouts.

A sort-of workaround … if you sync a workout to your Garmin, the workout FIT file ends up in the Workouts directory of the device.
