Does accepting AI FTP effect my planned workouts?

Jonathan keeps saying that Trainer Road AI doesn’t need FTP to prescribe a workout. Just recently i was prompted to accept a new AI FTP that was 2 watts lower than my previous AI FTP. My concern is that i have not failed any workouts, in fact they’re usually just right or a little on the easier side. If i accepted the lower FTP would that make my workouts even easier? And wouldn’t that defeat the purpose of progressive overload?

I do most of my workouts outside. My week typically consists of 2 hard structured workouts, 2 endurance rides, an occasional zwift race and a hard group ride on Saturdays. Do i need to worry about AI FTP updates? Can i just keep going without changing the number?

I always recommend accepting the proposed FTP.

What Jon is alluding to is that we’ll get you the right workouts regardless of what your FTP is set to.

If your FTP drops slightly, we’ll just prescribe slightly higher-level workouts if we need to, which are often more productive anyway.

If your FTP was set too high, you’d likely just get low-level workouts that were achievable but less productive.

Let me know if that makes sense.

Oh, and welcome to the forum!
