I got one as recently as yesterday, for tubes.

haven’t received one since Apr 4th. Today I got from westernbikeworks about the new Conti tires, but not from BTD

I got one from BTD about the new Conti tires.

Just a quick update on the de minimus exemption…and it ain’t pretty.

In addition to the increase in the country-specific reciprocal tariffs on China, the E.O. also announced an increase to the tariff rate for de minimis imports from China. Imports that would otherwise qualify for de minimis duty-free treatment and sent via the “international postal network” are now subject to the following duty rates, effective May 2, 2025:

  • ad valorem duty of 120% of the value of the postal item; or
  • specific duty of $100 per postal item (increasing to $200 on June 1, 2025)

SO if you want something from Aliexpress or a Chinese Consumer-Direct supplier, you better place your order now…because this is basically the end of either of those two options for US consumers.

Anyone ever see deals on a Kickr Core? 20% off and free shipping would be nice.

I know REI often has sales plus you get the member dividend back but they often don’t seem to have the Core in stock.

It’s not urgent so I can be patient.

Ordered some parts from aliexpress last Friday I think, and by Wednesday they’d cleared customs and set for delivery today. So they’re getting stuff across fast.

With the 120%, that’ll make product already in the US cheaper (i.e. ordering carbon rims from china vs just buying some rovals) until Specialized etc raise their prices … then neither Chinese direct or Specialized’s prices will be within my budget.

And that is just it…and illustrates why tariffs don’t work. So if tariffs cause foreign-made goods to get more expensive (and with these tariffs, substantially more expensive), then domestic suppliers can raise their prices, too…As long as they stay beneath the imported goods, they still get to raise their prices, enjoy more margin and revenue while the consumer only gets stuck with higher prices.

Yes, exactly. Also, Tariff related price movements are sticky; that new higher price will stay around, even if tariffs are revoked.

Maybe a dumb question, but how do you know if the 120% of value or $100/$200 per item applies? Is it type of merchandise or a whichever is greater scenario?

Yeah, good question…I haven’t seen any clarification as to which value applies when.

It’s also not clear to me if that’s 30% up to a maximum of $25, or if it’s $25 minimum (even on a $2 aliexpress purchase) and then 30% above some limit.

I rolled the dice one more time on some brake pads.

" * Following the Secretary of Commerce’s notification that adequate systems are in place to collect tariff revenue, President Trump is ending duty-free de minimis treatment for covered goods from the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and Hong Kong starting May 2, 2025 at 12:01 a.m. EDT.

  • Imported goods sent through means other than the international postal network that are valued at or under $800 and that would otherwise qualify for the de minimis exemption will be subject to all applicable duties, which shall be paid in accordance with applicable entry and payment procedures.
  • All relevant postal items containing goods that are sent through the international postal network that are valued at or under $800 and that would otherwise qualify for the de minimis exemption are subject to a duty rate of either 30% of their value or $25 per item (increasing to $50 per item after June 1, 2025). This is in lieu of any other duties, including those imposed by prior Orders."

I suspect confusion is part of the plan

The Hunt Sub50 Limitless has a coupon code MYSUB50 which gives you an additional 20% off of the sets which are already sitting at 15% off.

That puts the carbon spoke set at $1700 and the steel spoke set at $1360

Before the de minimis rules change, sharing some bib shorts I’ve been really happy with.

Elastic interface chamois. I got the cargo version.

Sure, a $150+ pair of top tier bibs are likely better, but these have been great for me.
