I have had a Shockstop Stem since they came out from the Kickstarter campaign many years ago. Been on all 3 of my gravel bikes since then and will move to another if Iever change away from my current bike.

It’s an essential bit of kit for riding in my area. We sell them now at my shop and I’ve never had one returned. They are just great product from a great group of people too.

would you consider putting it on a road bike? (That’s where I want it)

Sure, could. I don’t need it in my area, but it could help for people with bad roads or anyone who can’t get a larger tire for cushion on the road.

Mines tuned softer more for absorption of the smaller bumps and I rely on tires for big hits in gravel. Depends on your goals, a swap between the springs should gove plenty of options to suit your needs.

Nice prices, but I wonder how beaten to hell these former pro bikes are. Also, I would surely need new, smaller chainrings.

I wonder if pro bikes are really that much of a risk - they get taken care of much more than any amateur bike. Unless they’re being crashed, the bikes are supposed to hold up under tremendous stress. I assume that any bike is being reviewed for clear issues, just like with TPC.

I really like the design of these and the price is amazing. Alas, $5K is still $5K.

Thanks!

For anyone who’s never used these before, they stack on top of your current subscription and TP does it every November. So, for example, if your subscription expires in May of 2024 and you go in today and do an annual subscription with the discount code, your subscription will now expire May 2025.

The main thing I’ve heard is that due to the high mileage, powerful rider, and a lot of racing, these frames go through a ton of load cycles and do experience carbon fatigue, which manifests as a loss of stiffness. Also, I am not sure there is a pro frame in existence that went through a season of racing and hasn’t been crashed. The other thing that would concern me is the likelihood of needing to swap out the whole cockpit or even having enough steerer, due to usually aggressive fit employed by these guys. These are aggressive prices, and probably for good reason.

May only be a $20 savings, but I’m always happy to see this one every year! I just wish they’d let me pay in advance for two years at a time.

Who did you hear the “loss of stiffness” thing from?

A carbon expert, I believe an F1 composites engineer, was a guest on GCN tech ones. It was a pretty good interview regarding the life span of carbon frames.

Interesting that they’re not using the Lab71 layup, but the “lower” tier Hi-Mod. Higher stiffness perhaps?

I have no idea - but the price looks right. As for the mileage these bikes see - at least for training, aren’t they mostly Z2? The biggest issue for me if I wanted to get one of these is warranty, or lack there of… I wonder if Cannondale would honor any type of warranty on these used pro-issue frames.
On the other hand, I’d think these bikes have had a thorough inspection and I’d assume they’d sell only tip-tip condition bikes otherwise they’d detail any blemishes prior to selling but I could be wrong.
