There’s probably a metra stop close by

I suppose taking the battery out if AXS would work as well…interesting – never thought to race SS before…maybe I’ll give it a shot lol!

Heres a fun question for the SS crowd…so you can run a pit bike with different gearing, right? If I were to race SS with an unplugged DI2 and decide later during the race I need to be up or down a gear, can I pit, plug in, change gear, and unplug, as long as I do it from the pit?

See Reddit - 2023 Chicago Cross Cup for a few suggestions of clinics.

I can’t vouch for any of these. Personally, I just go to a local park with varied terrain, and lots of space. Sometimes I bring cones. Doesn’t seem to bother anyone.

I am not going to the officials about that, but I am going to give you hell for riding a 2 speed bike… Half the fun of SS is being in the wrong gear the whole time. Here is USAC’s definition of a single speed:

Haha more of a hypothetical. Never actually raced SS, not sure I plan to either!

I mean, you posted about it on the internet so it’s a done deal, right??

Troof!

I’m gettin the racing itch big time. Did a few xc races this summer to keep the juices flowin but I’m right at a month out from my first cross race of the year. Only thing that sucks about cx is I used to love summer time, now I can’t wait for it to be over knowing racing is coming!

I miss racing SS. Was so much fun. I’ve been thinking about getting back into it this year.

It’s happening. Bought cx tires for the first time since 2018. No SS this time around, but since I don’t have a cx bike anymore, I’ll be on my RaceMax. Geo minus BB drop is close my old Mares.

What tires are you guys running this year? I’ve always been a pdx and grifo fan. Gonna try my luck with some chicanes this year, weather permitting

I basically run Baby Limus (75%) or Limus (25%) for every race. I picked up some used alloy tubulars a few seasons back with those mounted and plan to use them until the tires wear out. With only 6-7 races per year, they’re still pretty fresh. Just check the glue job to make sure it’s good to go.

I do have a tubeless wheelset laying around that I was considering mounting a good dry tire. The Chicane looks like it would work. My early season races are grass/dirt crits so I would love a fast rolling file tread.

I have mostly run the handmade tubeless Grifos with CushCore for the past two seasons. Just put an order in on the new 38mm Grifos. Same setup, can’t wait!

Cx tires are kind of tough imo. It’s unfortunate that there’s so little real data available on them. I’ve always ran the Vitoria tubeless tires. Last year I tried to go Challenege, but couldn’t get them on my I9 UL250 wheelset for the life of me.

Haha I shit you not it took me about a half hour to mount each of the chicanes on my 303s rims. For comparison, I was using those wheels since Feb-ish on the road with gp5k str and I remember thinking those were the easiest tubeless tires I’ve ever mounted

Problem with challenge tires are the htlr are so hard to mount, but anything but their htlr tires are garbage!

I’ve gatta say, I’m very excited for a dry race, bc these tires are really good! It feels like cheating after running baby limus/pdx in the past.

In what way? Grip, rolling resistance, both?

Been thinking of making a similar switch…

Speed/rolling resistance at the expense of grip. Wouldn’t wanna be on wet ground with these but for a dry, dirt/grass crit, I’m pretty impressed

I put together my new race wheels last night, very excited about them.

I have tubeless PDX and MXP, and the tubular pair is a Fango front and Chicane rear. SSCX currently has older Specialized Tracers glued up.
