I’m trying out rene herse knobbies for the first time… if I don’t podium it’ll totally be because I tried new tires and for no other reason, lol
PDX in the front and MXP in the back has worked well for my wife (who’s much more talented) and me.
Cross sure is coming! Get excited!
I used the Vittoria Terrano Mix last season and like it a lot.
I may do that this year. I have a set of PDX’s that are getting worn in the center. May just replace the rear with an MXP and leave PDX on the front for a bit more cornering bite.
I’d been using All-Terrane’s front and back. I’m not sure how much of it was the tires vs reaching that point where my poor handling skills “clicked” into mediocre, but I was pleasantly surprised at the difference.
My SSCX is running a pair of baby limuses. My TCX came with Maxxis All-Terrenes and I mangled up one in my first race on them, something separated in the bead so it has a wicked bump in it. Finished the season on it, but not impressed that one off camber bump tore it up like that.
Big fan of Donnelys. I run PDX when its muddy, USH on hard pack and dry grass.
I’m curious to hear how this goes!
I’m planning to run the Teravail Cannonballs I currently have on the bike If this is a terrible idea tell me now haha. I’m in MPLS if that helps.
I merged your topic under the one that came before yours, so we have it all in one topic.
I’m pumped for cross this year! Last year was my first-time racing and it was a blast. It was so much fun ripping around corners with fellow racers cheering you on. I’m in New England (US), which has an awesome scene. I’m running baby limus this year because last year I was on 35s Cross Boss and I want to see how 33s are. My new local bike shop has a weekly cross practice race that I’m really looking forward to.
That is what i was expecting, thank you!
I got lapped (twice) by Cam Mason last year. I felt slightly better when I learned who he was…
Hitting up the Chi Cross Cup races for the third year in a row!
Recent transplant to the Northwest 'burbs, so if anyone in the Chicagoland area knows good places to practice, let me know!
Yes! Cricket hill starting in august sometime, there are organized practice races. Should be Thursday nights. I’m on a mailer with guy that puts it on, I’ll try to give you a heads up when it get going. It usually gets more solid once Intelligentsia is over, so a week or two.
You should be fine unless we get a major change in weather. It is going to be dry and bumpy at races this year. Are you planning on attending the tuesday night races? If not, they are a ton of fun.
Thanks! I gotta see if I can swing Tuesdays with my work schedule, and then go from there.
Alright crossy folks, my wife has expressed some interest in jumping into a cross race or two. She currently has an OTSO Waheela C with Ultegra R8000 (50/34 x 11-32) on it. What is my cheapest route to a 1x clutched setup?
Shift to the small ring and dont touch the left shifter again.
Why the urge for 1x? If your wife really wants 1x by all means…but I personally wouldnt take the initiative and push it for a first race…keep it simple and fun.
There are definitely cross practices in Chicago, but they’re few and far between in the suburbs. Unfortunately, it’s a major PITA to get into the city from the suburbs on a weeknight.
Want to limit any unfun experiences with a dropped chain etc. I might just grab a GRX 810 derailleur and hope that works.
