Custom workouts should appear by default in workout search results

Hi TrainerRoad team,

I noticed something that may create unnecessary friction when searching for workouts from the calendar.

When I use Add Workout → Browse Workouts and search for a custom workout name or date, the search returns “No Workouts Found” by default, even though the workout does exist.

The reason is that custom workouts only appear after opening Add Filters, going to Workout Type → Custom, and manually selecting Yes.

From a user experience perspective, this is not very intuitive. If I’m searching for a workout by name, especially one I created myself, I would naturally expect custom workouts to be included in the search results by default.

A simpler behavior would be either:

  • include custom workouts in search results by default, or
  • make the “Custom workouts” toggle more visible directly in the search panel, instead of hiding it inside filters.

This would make it much easier to find and add custom workouts to the calendar, especially when using date-based names or imported workouts.

Thanks!

This is great feedback, and something that I totally agree with.

Thanks for taking the time to reach out! I’ve just shared this with the right people and I’ll let you know when I hear back. :handshake:
