I’ve heard all the hype and benefits and thought I’d try it, but have been sick since starting.
Monday - bought it while at work - took 5g at night
Tuesday - woke up dehydrated and with a split lip, had a headache by midday - 20g
Wednesday - still feeling dehydrated, phlegm starting to build in the back on my throat - 20g
Thursday - same as wednesday - 20g
Friday - feel weak and like i have a cold - skipped my training - 15g
Saturday - headache is back, my throat is congested - skip training - 5g
Sunday - feel a little better but i look super pale and sickly - skip training - giving up on Creatine.
in terms of water consumption, I normally have 2-3L per day, not including what i drink on the bike. for the last week I’ve had to double that, been doing 5-6L per day.
Am I the only one that’s experienced negative symptoms with creatine? everything online seems to be in full support of the supplement.
15-20g seems like a lot. Is it pure and from a reputable company?
It kind of sounds like coincidentally got a flu bug. WebMD though says that an allergic reaction is possible though rare.
When I researched this a while back, my conclusion was that loading was not ncessary. As low as 3g per day will get one to an adequate level in a couple of weeks.
Everything I’ve found says to do a preload of 20g/day for 5-7 days and then maintenance of 5g/day onwards.
Whether or not that is excessive or not, no idea, I’m no scientist lol. I’m just going off the protocol as per the literature and even as directed on the TR podcast
It may be the flu or something, I’ve never been sick where I’ve had to double my water intake, but very possible given its winter.
Might try a much lower dosage in the future with no preloads, but gonna take a break from it for now
I just started it 4 weeks ago and have had no issues. I had read all about the pre-load as well, but opted to just start with 5mg a day and keep it there just to be conservative.
There is close to 0 chance that the creatine did any of this, except demand a slightly higher fluid intake. If you’d said ‘on it for 7 months and I got a kidney stone’ I might be tempted, but you just got sick dude.
