Collagen for protein and recovery (drink)

Please note that that is a pay for print “peer reviewed” article written by some Spanish supplement company.

Have you tried Vega Sport protein powder? I like the taste a lot.

I use momentous collagen powder and garden of life vegan protein powder. My wife hates the taste of both of them. I personally don’t care and use them as a supplement and not a sweet additive. Just chug them and be done with it, it’s not that bad of a taste.
If you want to make a smoothie using them, it’s great too. Again, I don’t really buy them because they taste like Oreo cookies or something.
My biggest concern buying any supplements are being third party tested and no fillers.

To each their own

I dabble in rock climbing, and climbers are all the time injuring their connective tissue (finger tendons/ligaments mostly.) Eric Horst is a well respected climbing coach; he sells collagen supplements and promotes it for injury prevention and recovery, so very much not unbiased. But the links at the end of this article are a good collection peer reviewed studies on collagen supplementation. In general positive, but most compare collagen vs. nothing rather than collagen vs. whey etc. Collagen for Climbers - Latest Research Supports Benefits!

My take is that whey is actually not particularly rich in glycine or proline, so if your primary goal is ligament/tendon health some collagen supplementation is not a bad idea. The idea of pre-loading with collagen e.g. before a weight training session makes sense too, as dynamic loading of connective tissue seems to be a big driver of circulation and repair in those poorly vascularized sites. But it’s a very incomplete protein, so not the right choice for general protein supplementation.
