Coffee - Show us your set up

Saeco Italia, almost 20 years going… I know this machine inside-out, I’ve replaced pretty much every part at least once (including the casing). It needs almost as much love as my bike. And gives back.

now that’s a nice cup. Does it make you drink faster?

At some point, are we going to get into the finer details of the cup we drink from? Like there are loads of different beer glasses which claim to give you maximum aroma or keep the drink colder longer.

I don’t understand the point of a cup larger than espresso-size.

Except for latte bowls, that is.

Please do…I have a Friday group ride that meets for donuts and coffee (or we used to ) and some of us have a group text for sharing food / coffee pics while we are quarantined. I sent a pic of my espresso in a double-wall glass cup (similar to above) and was promptly chastised. Still not clear what is wrong with a glass espresso cup. :man_shrugging:

I generally prefer a lungo vs. traditional sized espresso. It lasts just that little bit longer but still packs plenty of flavor.

If you have seen my coffee setup then you’ll know it’s not worth me showing my cup setup.

I’ve just wondered a few times that some people swear by double walls and glass/ceramic etc…

With special mention to Pact Coffee here in the UK.

And an aeropress when travelling

Simple, but effective.

Saw this tweet thread yesterday and thought some may enjoy it…I got a few chuckles.

Gaggia classic and a kompac k3… it’s all in the grind… also in heavy use is the Moka pot and the aeropress at the office. Well, maybe not the latter right now!

I didn’t think I would be talking coffee in a bike forum but nevertheless, what are folks recommendations for the quietest high quality burr grinder? (I have a baby and toddler) Right now I have a capresso burr grinder (low grade burr grinder) that I wrap a large towel around to silence. I have been doing gooseneck pour overs with kalita or aeropress for many years.

Check out speedwellcoffee.com out of Plymouth, MA. I’ve been getting freshly roasted (1 day free shipping included) if you buy bulk for $15 a pound. I just received ethiopian teppi which is a naturally dried, light roasted bean and is excellent. It’s a small company and the owner is great…he’ll usually answer the email himself.

I love my tiny travelling French press to use in a hotel before a race!

That’s a very similar set up to mine. I don’t have a clever dripper - am wondering if the coffee it makes is different enough to Aeropress to bother getting one?

Brewtus IV rotary pump
Ceado E37s
Acaia scale
Acaia doser

Yaaaaaa I take this morning ritual way too seriously.

That’s exactly my setup, though I’ve got the Encore not the Virtuoso. Chemex for when I need to make 2 cups.

If you don’t have it already, Able Brewing makes a metal screen for the Aeropress, it gives you a bit more body in the cup than the paper filters.

I will literally order one today. I’m currently sipping a cup of Kalita because I’m out of aeropress filters. Was also going to comment, as much as the Chemex would help me out efficiency wise (I drink a lot of coffee), I just can’t help but feel it’s a bit too clean of a cup for me; very little body. In my experience, it also seems to pair better with brighter coffees, right? I definitely like lighter roasts, but am more into the cola/nutty/earthy notes rather than the cherry/tart coffees. That metal filter might be awesome (rolling all that info into one thought.)

Coffee is a natural extension of cycling (or was that other way around?), so it’s all good.

I just bought a Eureka Mignon Silenzio, which is considered to be one, if not the quietest grinders on the market. I can tell you for certain, that it is VERY quiet and no louder than a hand grinder that I used before then.

You can see the picture in the first post.
And here is Gill’s review of it.

I just use a $20 grinder and an Aeropress or a french press at home. Coffee shop when I want espresso.

I just use a Bunn (certified by SCA though) and a grinder. I would love to have an espresso machine, but every time I think about I talk myself out of it saying I would only use at the beginning and eventually just quit using it.
