So funny/not funny story from when i was in high school.

There was a guy in my school (he was a senior I was a freshman) who his nick name was “Ben Gay”.

The gossip in the school was that at some point some dude told him he would have more fun with himself if he used Ben Gay. An apparently he did and had to go to hospital.

Not sure if the story was real or not. But I do know that once one of the “cool kids” (my brain thinks he looked like the guy from stranger things with the camaro, but early 90s edition) started making fun of him and there was a fist fight. Ben Gay beat the shit out of the cool kid. I think most of the people stopped calling him like that.

Slightly of tangent but according to the GB team members (in podcasts and interviews) don’t trim closely/shave as the hair provides a reduction in friction and shaving rash/cuts/ingrowing hair is a recipe for trouble.

I’ve avoided petroleum-based products, as they tend to slowly eat away at the spandex in your bibshorts, causing loss of stretch/sagginess so that the chamois often doesn’t fit as well anymore, and sometimes transparency as well… this takes a year or two of regular use though.

Also, petroleum-based products will potentially leach through and damage the leather of your saddle as well. Again, this would be over a period of years though.

This is for the biological males…be careful about using any products made from soybean oil on or near your gonads. It’ll make your natural testosterone production to plummet due to the estrogenic properties soybeans.

Bagbaum works great at getting rid of saddle sores. Rub it on them as soon as they show up and they’ll most likely be gone the next day. Does the saddle fit you properly? If it doesnt the saddle sores will keep showing up. Saddle height plays a role too.

Any proper sources for that? It smacks of the “soyboy” insult where people who drink soya milk are said to have lower test levels.

I’m happy with muc-off chamois cream but always interested in the science!

Why yes I do. We all know cyclist ply on the chamois creme with soya oil (soybean oil) more than triathletes. "Plasma estradiol (estrogen) concentrations were more than two times higher in cyclists than in triathletes and recreational athletes (p < 0.01). This was taken from: Reproductive hormones and interleukin-6 in serious leisure male athletes - PubMed

I’m just here to learn, enlighten, and have fun. I was suffering from low T symptoms a few years back, did some research, made some diet (no soybean oil, no flaxseed, pesticide free foods, etc.) and cut out chamois creme with soya (soybean oil) and now I’m fine. I wanted to find natural ways of increasing my T and lowering my estrogen instead of being lazy and relying a pill prescribed by a doctor.

The study cited here also says;
“Testosterone levels were also higher in cyclists than recreational athletes (p < 0.01), but not significantly different from triathletes.”
Additionally, there is no connection made between the use of soybean oil products and estrogen levels.

Soybeans contain Phytoestrogens, which are not the same as estrogen. They bind to the same receptors, but much more weakly. There is no direct evidence of phytoestrogen intake increasing serum estrogen levels. In fact, it is possible that phytoestrogens reduce serum estrogen by binding to estrogen receptors and reducing uptake.

If you want to seriously avoid estrogen in food, you might want to start with meat and dairy. All meat and dairy containing estrogen, not just phytoestrogen. Although, since much of the factory farmed meat (here in us at least) is fed with soybean crops, if you really want to avoid soybeans you should probably avoid that meat too. The majority of soybean crops worldwide are used as animal feed.

Funny, I never heard of using Noxzema until I saw this video a few weeks ago. Prior to that I mainly used Chamois Butt’r with good results. I tried a few others over the years with good results as well but always went back to CB. Maybe it was timing but I needed to restock my cream and I saw that video and have been using it since. I’m definitely a convert!

I tried this and it works well but can be difficult to wash off your skin completely and to get out of the chamois. I’m not sure how parents get it off their babies,

I uses the cycling specific body glide - it’s the same stuff runners and triathletes have been using for years, but it has anti-bacterial properties for the undercarriage. It goes on like stick deodorant and works like a charm.

As far as making DIY chamois cream … if I develop a “problem area” I use a combination of 2 parts Aquaphor and 1 part Neosporin (for antibacterial properties) and mix it in my hand and apply. It’s a bit more slippery, for lack of a better term, than the Glide if you’re looking for extra protection.

I’ve been using PJ happily for a year, every ride. Applied directly to skin. No noticeable issues with bibs or anything. I’ll try Noxzema next though, might be nice to have something that washes off my hands a little easier after application.

I tried Noxzema this morning and got uncomfortable red welts under my sit bones after my ride. If this was all an eleborate prank there’s something wrong with you people!

Back to PJ for me. At least I can use the Noxzema to combat my acne that’s been prevalent since I started cycling (at age 38?!)
