Cancelling TrainingPeaks Premium - what will I lose?

With the launch of Zwift integration I’d like to get back on there (it’s been at least 2 and maybe as many as 4 years since I last rode Zwift, but I always felt like the visuals of the virtual world helped me dig a bit deeper during my hardest intervals). I’m trying to figure out how to justify the cost though, and thinking maybe it’s time to quit paying for TrainingPeaks which I pretty much only use as an analysis/monitoring tool.

I don’t rely on TP for any single feature, but I do keep an eye on CTL/TSB as part of my overall understanding of how things are going (in addition to RL/GL and a number of other tools). I think there are some situations where I find it easier to look at the TP ride analysis pages than the TR ones, though I can’t actually identify any specific instance/reason I might choose to do so.

One of the biggest reasons I’ve kept TP is as an archive of all my data, including the metrics that TR strips off of ride files (like L/R balance which was useful in monitoring return from surgery over the last couple years even though I wouldn’t normally concern myself with it). And it also stores a bunch of other inputs that TR won’t even attempt to process (like Garmin biometrics, Whitings smart scale weigh-ins, etc.)

I’m pretty sure even if I downgrade to a free account all that data will still get stored in TP, right?

And it looks like I’ll probably still be able to see CTL/ATL/TSB both today and in the past, yes?

Will I still have access to the same ride summary pages too?

I was also looking at the forum thread about migrating from TP to intervals.icu and wondering if that might fill any gaps left by downgrading TP. Looks like the main concern for most in that thread was migrating workout libraries - I’ve got a handful of my own workouts in TP which I don’t want to lose forever but I also don’t really anticipate using, so I’d be happy to just export them as files to save on my computer if a TP downgrade causes them to get deleted. Is that something I need to consider here?

Anything else I need to be aware of here, particularly anything I might lose that I wouldn’t be able to get back by upgrading to TP Premium again in the future?

Thanks!

Have you tried TrainingPeaks Virtual?

It’s ‘free’ for Premium subscribers. It’s a good alternative for Zwift if the visuals of Zwift give you that extra boost.

Not 100% certain, but pretty sure you will lose the ability to really dig into your data….you won’t be able to go in and create segments in your data (a particular hill, interval, effort, etc).

There are also likely other analytical tools you’ll lose access to, but not certain which ones off the top of my head. I’m sure some of the charts would not be accessible, like Time in Zones, etc. But you should be able to track the headlines (CTL, ATL, etc)

just use intervals.icu

Just to be clear, with this you just mean creating specific laps within a workout even though they weren’t recorded with the laps, right? TP doesn’t have the Smart Segment feature like WKO does, unless I’ve been missing it! If so, I definitely want to know.

Correct.

For me, TP + TPV came out to half the price of Zwift alone. And I have zero interest in all the gamified stuff, plus the visuals on TPV are more appealing to me (some will disagree). And TPV is far more cutomizable.

I’d suggest you try TPV before you make the decision. Whether you love it or not, that’s the best way to decide.
