I love how TR automatically populates my calendar with suitably designed workouts in accordance with whatever plan I want to follow, and I appreciate how I can add workouts (events, workouts, outdoor rides and other activities, and other adjustments).
There is however one feature from TrainingPeaks which I really miss: Creating a library of custom workouts (with relevant metrics such as time, distance, TSS, etc.) which can be repeated/copy-pasted.
To give a specific and relevant use case: I have a good commute to and from work which I would like to add to my training calendar so that it impacts the training plan.
- In TrainingPeaks, I have a set of activities in a āWorkout libraryā, sorted in a folder structure. I drag & drop the relevant workouts to the relevant days. Then I can copy-paste the day to all the days that I plan to follow the relevant workouts, and then I can copy entire weeks. Below is a screenshot from TrainingPeaks showing exactly this.
- In TR, I cannot find a similar feature. I can of course create a āSolo bike rideā, and add start time, duration and intesity, and mark it as ārepeatingā and manipulate the cadence of the workout by using āRepeating every (ā¦)ā. While it can sort of work, I find it a bit crude compared to TrainingPeaksā alternative.
Is there anything on Trainerroadās roadmap that covers such a wish? If not, I am sure many of us who use our commutes as a training session would love to see this feature in TR!
Hey there,
We donāt have anything on the roadmap like this at the moment ā weād recommend using Solo Rides, as you already mentioned yourself, in the meantime.
Iāll pass your suggestion along to the rest of the TR team, though!

How consistent is the structure of those commutes? If theyāre predictable (even if not steady-state) then Iād go to the workout creator and make a custom workout for each of those commutes, approximating the effort as best as possible without getting too granular, then add them as āoutsideā workouts on the relevant days.
Would that achieve the same effect?
The commutes are very consistent, and with very little variability. The TSS for each ride varies only by a few points. What I want to do, is be able to add the commutes as workouts in the calendar in a easy, fast manner - i.e. add to the calendar and duplicate them across all the days that I plan to commute, for example by something similar to the ācopy pasteā feature in TrainingPeaks.
Yeah I think custom workouts should work for that - though it might end up being a lot of extra clicks to deploy them all as āoutsideā workouts rather than defaulting to indoor sessions. Would have to try and see to find out for sure.
Took me a while to understand this when I first migrated from TP to TR, but the workout creator is a separate app in the TR ecosystem, so you canāt just pull it up from within the TR app or web platform - youāll need to download it separately.
Saying that, I did somehow manage to unintentionally import some TP workouts into my TR account ages ago. Itās been years so I donāt remember exactly what happened but I think maybe it had something to do with having them scheduled on my TP calendar and then getting ported over to TR? I do remember that whatever it was only worked for workouts with power targets so the ones in your screenshot wouldnāt make the jump. But if you opened them in the TP editor and built them out then they might copy over? Best bet would be to build them fresh in TR creator though!
