Bring Back Workout Association Directly in the iOS App

I’d like to share some feedback regarding workout association in the iOS app.

Previously, it was possible to associate a completed ride or activity directly to a planned TrainerRoad workout from within the iOS app. This was a very convenient workflow when completing an outdoor ride or an activity that should count toward a scheduled workout.

Now, as far as I can tell, the only way to do this is:

  1. Open the activity details.

  2. Be redirected to the web browser.

  3. Use the web interface to associate the activity with the planned workout.

This feels like a significant step backward in terms of user experience, especially for mobile-first users. What used to take a few taps in the app now requires switching contexts and using the browser.

Is this functionality planned to return to the iOS app? If not, I’d strongly encourage the team to consider bringing it back, as it made post-workout management much faster and more intuitive.

Thanks!

Are you talking about this or something else?

Yes, this :+1:. No longer available since weeks

This is from a ride for me last week and it allowed me to associate with a planned workout on TR IOS app

See my screen recording : iCloud Photos - Apple iCloud

This is working as intended for me on iOS as well.

@AntoineG, could you check which version of the app you’re on?

If you click on “support” and scroll to the bottom, you should see it.

The most recent version is 2026.22.0

My version is the same

Are you not seeing the “TrainerRoad Workout” section that @TooManyDogs showed above?

Are you selecting a ride that has a TR workout scheduled on the same day?

Could you send over a screenshot of what you’re seeing?

Can’t you see the video i shared?

Yes - for the ride you are trying to associate, you have no incomplete rides scheduled for that day, so you’re not able to associate it with anything.

I believe you need to have a planned but not yet completed ride scheduled for the same day as the ride you are trying to associate.

That’s the case, I did it for years, I know exactly how it works.

I can do a video with a planned WO not associated. The result will be the same, this portion of the detail screen is not showing “associated WO”.

I did some TR beta, could it be an account setting?

Look at this session, I associated it through the website, but nowhere you can find the association part on the iOS app. You can’t un-associate it.

What workout is associated with that activity?

It doesn’t look like you’re actually associating your activity with a TR workout because the TR workout is listed as “20260607.”

Is that a custom workout or something?

That’s a custom workout. Nothing new, it was working well before.

Another point, the section is not visible, it means nothing related with the WO itself.

Could you try it with a planned TR workout on your calendar?

I want to see if this is an issue exclusive to custom workouts.

I can’t seem to reproduce your behavior on my end. :face_with_monocle:

Here an example of a TR planned WO

This shows that the activity is associated with Freeborn.

Here’s what I see on iOS if I have a TR workout scheduled on a day where I also have a completed ride.

That’s what I had before, you can edit, I can’t

So this might not be related, but I don’t like coincidences.

I just struggled with associations myself on Sunday, and it’s because my bike ride was recorded in Garmin as part of a triathlon workout. You get the bike workout separately transmitted to TR as you would want, but it doesn’t allow associations because it’s not seen as a “cycling activity”.

So perhaps check what kind of activity was recorded?

That’s because that workout was done in Zwift, and we know that was a TR workout.
