Bluetooth Earbud (in ear) Recommendations

I don’t work for Apple.

I’m just a User that makes choices based on preference made over the decades of experience.

I’ve ridden with both… in ear and apple wired headphones…

AirPods in Transparency allow me to be fully aware with the low volume background of my own music.

JBL Reflect Contour2
• Wireless
• Secure Fit
• Sweatproof

I wear these while walking, working, and on the indoor trainer. I never wear them while riding outdoors. For me I need to be very aware of other cyclists, cars, and people while outdoors.

I went with a pair of Jabra Elite Active 65T’s to replace my X4’s.

I know they are a few years old now, but the price was great and my first impressions are very positive - sound great and fit really well (small ears)

i bought some days ago Jabra Elite Active 65T (they could be really great, i will see, what i say in a half year or so), before i tried some Bluetooth earbuds with cables (OnePlus wireless), but got problems with the cables after some month of using, so mostly only one side of the Earbuds worked, anyway Oneplus replaced them one time, the second time they offered me to get the money back, so i reinvested the mone to the Jabra

Thanks for the recommendation - just received mine and i’m super happy so far.

Sound seems to be far better than the price would suggest and love that the case has its own battery so you can charge your headphones while away from a plug socket.

If my maths is correct then you could get almost 100hrs from one charge of the case if you just used one bud at a time.

Do they really not have on off button though?

Glad to hear it!

On the battery life, I haven’t calculated what the effect is of using only one bud at a time, but if together they last 9h and also have their own drivers (but one pairs to the other and only one to your music device), then I don’t see why it wouldn’t be a similar length of time when using just one**. So that’s 9h for one use, and 36h (or four further 9h uses) from the capacity of the case. So 45h before you need to charge the case again.

As for on/off buttons, in the absence of using the case, say if you were out on the road and hadn’t brought it along, my experience is that you can either hold down the single button (or go into your device’s bluetooth settings) to disconnect, and after a short amount of time it moves from this disconnected/standby state into powering off. I haven’t really tried this enough to confirm though as I’ve never had to be too careful with the battery, **including an 11h ride I did recently on which one bud was used for the vast majority of the ride and never died.

I just got a pair of the Jabra Elite Active 75t - life changing…

The single ear use is great for outdoor bike rides.

I decided to try the Jabird Vista’s after the recommendations above and because I’m always buying something bike related. The EQ in the app is pretty awesome. I have some tones I can’t hear and being able to test for what mix sounds best to me, I’m actually really happy with the result. Haven’t ridden in them yet but so far so good on fit and sound quality.

Lol… I had the same experience. Granted, I was upgrading from a pair of JBL Reflect Minis… so a lot would be a step up. Along the way, I had bought my wife a pair of Anker Soundcore Liberty ear buds, which were ok - but the difference between the Jabras and the Ankers or JBLs is night and day.

I’ve started doing some 6-8hr rides because I’m looking at SOLO ultramarathon races and it’s great to have a little thing that lasts the whole way (and if they didn’t the case fits and charges fast). Little features that an actually usable Assistant integration (“call home”, “play bob dylan”, “play podcast _____”, etc) is just icing on the cake.

Anyone had issues where the Jabra 65T will drop out every 10-15 seconds or so on a ride? I use the ambient sound mode which I find really useful to hear cars around me. Not sure if it’s a moisture thing. It isn’t autopausing and resuming, it seems to drop out.

So with the new season comes a dilemma.

I’m going to upgrade my fan (probably going for a lasko) and with the louder direct wind/wind noise, i might want a dedicated pair for audio. I sweat too much for the over the ear deal. I have my aftershockz which are great for outdoor riding, but for indoors ill need something better.

My phone controls pretty much everything (thank you samsung for still including ant+ antennas in your phones) and since i’ll be working out early in the morning now, i wont be able to use the speakers/subwoofer combo. I’ve tried the cheap chinese mpow, taotronics, etc etc… and i dont like how easily the connection gets cut off if i turn my head. But i also don’t wanna pay $CAD 200 for a pair that’ll essentially be used indoor only on the trainer… so many options and choices

Doesn’t really help but I took the plunge and bought some Jabra 75T. They were expensive but work very well (good sound, no dropping out,)
I’m glad I did as I find I’m using them during many other activites as well and not just trainer (cutting lawn, walks, etc)

See, that is interesting, for an example I currently use Jabra elite active 75T and they are great, connectivity is really good, if I’m in a gym I can just leave my phone anywhere and go away without any issues BUT if a phone is in my back pocket and I turn around to see incoming traffic - it cuts out. I had same issue with creative outlier air and some other earphones, I don’t know what causes it, it might be phone issue because it can also happen if I put my hands in a pocket with phone in it etc. So I’m not sure if more expensive earphones will help you with that.
If you need earphones just for turbo trainer just look at fit so they are comfortable, these basic features are basically the same, I have jabra 75t and use them mostly, but on my trainer I use creative outlier air because they are more comfortable, if I need tighter fit I use my taotronics with tighter ear fins etc. More expensive earphones really get ahead only when making phone calls, less lag when looking at video, better sound quality for music when it’s important, better signal when you walk away from phone etc.etc, no big difference on turbo trainer.

dang… i wouldve considered the pair of creatives… but for some reason amazon exchange rate has it go from $USD60 to like $120 for the basic air (not the golds)
I’ll keep searching but thanks for the suggestion. I can’t justify the 75t when i already have

  • aftershokz
  • sony mid range anc over the ear headphones (i use for work and calls and easy walks with doggy)

I’ll figure it out but thanks for the info.

I had the Jabra Elite Active 75t and had a lot of problems with them. At first it was mostly minor connection issues and annoying latency when playing movies from my PC. However, the right earbud started losing volume and eventually would only pump out about 10% of the normal volume. Returned. Waited 2 weeks for new buds, and the replacements had almost the same issue (except it was closer to 50% volume). Complained enough that they gave me a refund.

Bought Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus. They are actually really good. Some minor annoyances when switching between devices, but that is it. Fit is good. Good passive noise reduction. No latency with movies. I previously had the Jaybird Vista and they were great until my dog ate one of the buds. Decided I wanted something that could also handle work phone calls which is why I went down the Jabra and Samsung route. However, for just working out they were the best buds I ever had.

I have recently bought these… Apparently the best noise cancelling non-noise cancelling in ear buds!

Do not hear my turbo trainer with these on and less than £100.

I got those delivered today and haven’t seen this thread before. I did Augusta listening to them and sweating a lot. Love them. Sound quality was a priority for me when making the purchase.

I really like the powerbeat pros. Nice having something to wrap around my ear rand prevent from falling off when I am on rides. I had ones without it beforehand and after a few drops, some going downhill, just always became worried about it. Plus, the 9 hour battery life is great.
