Best position for 2 fans

Just wondering if there was an optimal position for 2 fans?

I currently have one out front on the floor aimed up (where a front wheel would be), and a second off to one side at chest level so that it hits my upper body when I’m in the drops.

There must be some marginal gains to be had in working out the best airflow combination? Something with fluid dynamics I imagine.

Maybe I’m better off with my 2 fans at 10 and 2 clock positions so they meet on my chest?

Anyone aware of an actual answer? Or is it just by feel, and I just need to go with the flow😜

I prefer one bowing in my face/neck/ upper torso and one blowing on my lower torso. I don’t know if its best, its just what I prefer!

My preference is one blowing up from the front wheel position and one on a table in back of me blowing straight at my back. I use the lasco air dryer type fans

I prefer one straight on that blows head and upper torso and one on the ground that blows right at the chest.

My setup is similar to yours. One down in front of the front wheel blowing up hitting my knees and lower torso, and one off the left side ~30 degrees hitting my head and upper torso. It’s cool in my basement/pain-cave and I have the fans on remote switches so start out with none, then as I warm up turn the front one on, then as I start to work I turn on the left one.

Same setup for me, I have 1 at 2 o’clock on a Home Depot bucket and 1 on top of some storage buckets blowing on my back/tailbone area. I had some extra Bluetooth outlets also, lets me do the warmup and click them on while on the bike.

  1. In window blowing towards upper body
  2. Directly in front blowing at saddle area.

Goal is sweat dissipation which usually ends up hanging out in my hips

The key thing is to position them to maximise sweat evaporation. anywhere your skin is staying wet or dripping is a missed opportunity to keep you cool and is a sign you need more airflow over that area.

I find one on the ground in front aimed slightly up blowing on my legs chest and face and a pedestal fan behind blowing on my back is good.

  1. big diameter shop fan hitting your whole body at a slight angle so you can get airflow on the back.

  2. directed at your chin

Thanks for all of the replies. Definitely like having my remote control so that I can start with one and then increase as I progress.

Seems like we all have similar setups, apart from the one front and one back. I’ve avoided that positioning because I wonder if they’d kinda cancel each other out when they meet. I don’t have any definitive proof of this but it seems to be what I’d expect.

Just curious what the majority view would be.

There were a couple sessions this summer that I thought mine were cancelling each other, but it was just hot I guess. My right side is against a wall, so my fans are set up at about 10 o’clock and 7 o’clock. I think my right side gets decent amount of flow due to deflection off the wall. And as a bonus, now that it’s getting cooler outside than inside in the mornings, I’m putting a box fan in the window across the room at my 9 o’clock, to push cooler air toward me, too… makes a big difference.

I find the one angled off the side ~30 degrees blows across my back too. It’s like my torso is like an airfoil.

Keep in mind that if you have these narrow flow blower fans, your body is effectively a block that keeps each airflow from negatively affecting the others. I did a graphic ages ago to show the flow that I experience and why it works despite plenty of skepticism over the years when I shared my setup.

I can only tell you that if you doubt it, try it and you will find out whether it works for you or not. Dollars to donuts it works… because I’ve never had anyone come back with a problem if they mimic my placements.

The fan in the back pointed at or along your back is a big, big help. Plenty of times I can’t use it because it’s too much.

I have 2 lasko blowers at 10 and 2, on a remote.

Best addition I made is a small maybe 6” vornado desk fan suspended from a beam above, pointed just at me forehead and scalp. It really affects perceived exertion and sweat out of your face eyes etc
