ASSIOMA DUO-SHI =>to Shimano SPD mtn/cross pedals

Hello,

Thanks for the information!

In your opinion, would it be possible to use the favero uno shi with the M520 pedals? In other words, one pedal with the normal axle, and another with the favero sensor?

I’m wondering about the length of the axle in particular.

Thank you very much for your reply

As long as you convert both Assioma pedals to SPD then it will be fine (see the Q factor discussion above).

Nice work on the hack. I think I have the older Assioma Duo spindles not the Shi spindles. Would the Shimano 520 pedals work on the original Assioma Duo spindle bodies? I’ve currently got Issi pedals on my Assioma bodies and they work great on the Assioma spindles but are not playing nicely with my Shimano cleats. I love my XTR pedals, they clip in and out so smoothly. Shimano SPD pedals just seem to work more smoothly than others.

In other words, the Shimano 520 or 540 pedals won’t work with my original Assioma Duo spindles from my Assioma Duo road pedals. Is that correct? The 540 pedal spindles actually do LOOK like they would work with the original Duo spindles. As do the XT m8000 pedal spindles. The 520 pedal spindles actually don’t look like they have the same spindles. I completed the hack a couple years ago before the Shi spindles were available.

This thread is specifically for the Assioma Shi, not the regular Assioma. There’s another thread for the regular Assioma conversion (see below). Please let’s keep the threads separate or it’s going to get confusing AF.

Go here and search for 520 or 540 (click the magnifying glass in top right and tick the box for “search this topic”).

@606david thank you so much for the very helpful info!

Out of curiosity what is the Q-facotr between A530 and M520, I’m currently setup my Assioma Duo-Shi with PD-EH500 but thinks its a bit too wide and so wonder if M520 (or540) can bring it closer.

Thank you!

Hi David!

If you’re still monitoring this is it possible to give a long term update on how the Shi bearings have been performing?

Im waiting to hear from a couple of suppliers to see if Faveros Mx Pro Bodies fit the Shi - just to keep everything on brand

In the Velo Q factor article referred to, they said

Shimano’s off-road-going SPD (two-bolt) pedal platform uses an axle with shorter proportions and also isn’t at all compatible (probably for the best – the power pod would likely come into contact with rocks …).

Is that something you feel has or could be a problem?

THANK YOU
