I use BestBikeSplit.com and find it very useful to upload a race course, and then tweak the predicted completion time to match my goal for the race, to see what the power expectations would be to achieve the goal. Would it be possible for TR to grow a similar feature when designing a training plan? Have TR design a plan which would get me where I’d need to be to complete the race in my goal time? I’d use that feature for my TT and triathlon bike segment races.

Unless you are already very near the fitness level to hit that performance, then this would be a suboptimal way to train and more likely to lead to failure in training and on race day.
Train to be as fit as ChrisXDawson can be, then put your race plan together, then enjoy the execution and result.
Set no expectations of your performance before you’ve even started training.
You are best picking a plan tailored to the particular demands of your event. You will then be guided to the best fitness you can achieve for those demands.
I’ve wondered this too. Maybe not to the same level of detail as BBS, but at least have the ability to input a distance and elevation gain when scheduling the event in the plan.
I went through this thought loop a few years ago, but unless there is something usual in the course I.e. IM Lanzarote , you’re best just getting as fit as you can generally. The long course IM and Century plans are specific enough.
If you know you are going to be doing lots of 30+ minute climbs at sweet spot followed by long periods of coasting, then you’ll want some focus away from long endurance imho. And maybe do it outside in speciality phase / last eight weeks before race day
Isn’t setting an expectation and goal time for an event exactly what this recent podcast by Jonathan Lee is about? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_G8kZe-WK8
I’m not suggesting TrainerRoad should include all of the features of BBS. Just the ability to upload a course and then tweak the suggested workout plan to see if a goal time is achievable. Maybe in addition to the workout plan, TR could show you probability of you succeeding in reaching your goal. Or maybe a matrix of probabilities for different event times.
I’m not a triathlete but I’m often asked to be part of a triathlon relay team for the bike segment. Selecting “triathlon” as the type of event seems to generate workouts which include running and swimming. That’s not useful for someone who is only racing the bike segment.
