Oh, I see. You want a separate app for iPad. My bad.
Yeah, I do that too. I tried the Strava routing a few times but ended up doing long hike a bikes up old, boulder strewn moto trails. Now I look at a trail I want to ride, find a few segments on that trail, then look at the overall route(s) people use.
Same, I sort by rides done this month or week to make sure Iām not going to end up closed or altered trails, and then look for the most competent looking route that matches my desired length (ideally by someone whoās local to the trails and clearly knows what theyāre doing).
Strava just released two new heat maps. One is for activities at night but the other, more useful one, is activities in the last week.
Went private. My account expires in March, DOH!!
Iāve used it for a long time mainly as a repository of my ride data and more recently nexus for sharing data with other apps. I stared with Garmin Connect ~2010 and it was wack. I keep everything private and I donāt use the social features. The only rider I follow is my wife.
Today when all ride data is stored in the cloud it is recommended to sync your data to multiple services, just in case. Even if you are not using Strava features it is a good place to automatically have a backup of your workouts.
Left Strava some years ago. Reason: Stressed me more than it motivated me. Because of the social pressure I lost the interest of doing a free training and ended in an overtraining.
Since I left Strava, I gained motivation back and enjoy to follow the structured training plan of TR.
Just be sure youāre not trying to beat the 60+ guy whoās just done a 30 mile loop at 33 mph with a heart rate of 98 bpm.
The ones by me are all people still fairly active and who seem to be pro or retired racers in the area. Problem is, I can peak for an attempt and have a perfect warmup and still be behind freaking john just out for his normal threshold workoutā¦
Yes, left strava a long time ago.over rated.
I just canceled my subscription. Was a paying member since 2015 and frankly Iām not sure what I was paying for other than the convenience of the data sharing. They just killed that with their new API sharing restrictions. Bye
Did the same
I posted earlier in this thread on the benefits strava accrued.
Those benefits are outweighed by their latest decision regarding third party integration.
That said , that decision leads to a larger and more profound question, what else are strava likely to roll out in the future which is detrimental to their subscribers?
Repairing broken trust, good luck with that
Iāve never had a paid subscription but the new changes do feel like a huge error on their part.
I have posted before to say how I really just use Strava as a means of sharing MY data with other 3rd parties such as intervals, veloviewer and TrainerRoad. I can see the latest changes impacting these - time will tell.
One thing Iām not sure about is ProBikeGarage. I use this for all my bike maintenance, setting maintenance schedules, tracking wear on cassettes etc. I donāt think this would be impacted. There is no analysis of data and itās not shared with people who arenāt me. This will be my only reason for staying on Strava. If PBG is impacted I think I will download and close completely. There is part of me that wants to do that anyway in protest - especially with the comments about any community threads being deleted.
Maybe a good way to protest is to start a # on all Strava uploads? Anyone else interested in doing this?
#MyDataNotStravas
Just done it. Changed the titles of all my activities since the announcement to #MyDataNotStravas
Itās your data and you have rights as to how it is used, but Strava is not obliged to facilitate storing and transferring your data to other companies for you.
Seems like a ridiculous business decision thoughā¦
True but for me stravaās biggest value the easy of using it as a training and wellness data hub and even though that was not a premium feature I happily subscribed to strava to support them so they could continue to being that central hub.
Just watched DC Rainmakers video on it. Promptly requested my archive and deleted my account. Who needs it.
but now they will no longer be that central hub that allows you to get additional insights on it from 3rd parties
