Anyone considering GCN Race pass?

I just signed up and have used it on my Android Samsung Galaxy S7.

The nice thing, for me, is that they upload the full race replay very quickly after the race has finished. So, if I’m working during the day of the race, I can get home and watch the replay before seeing any spoilers.

I experienced 2 little niggles though.

  1. When I first started watching, I couldn’t maximise the screen or rotate the screen. This, strangely, fixed itself mid way through me watching. Maybe an issue with my phone but other apps rotated just fine.

  2. If you switch to another app on you phone (even without closing the GCN app), when you return to GCN, the video has reset to the very beginning. Very annoying if you take a call or want to send a whatsapp message mid coverage.

Yep - point 2 is a bit annoying.

There is the option to give feedback within the app, which I’ve done. I’d encourage everyone to do the same. I’m sure it’s something they will get fixed

Hi, we won’t be covering racing on youtube for the foreseeable future, so you will need to purchase a subscription to view racing with GCN. We’ve got a web player coming soon so you should be able to view racing on your ipad should you want to subscribe! I hope that helps

I’m in the US. I signed up for Fubo Cycling Pass (currently $59 for the year) and NBC sports Gold ($54 for the year) so total for me is $10/mo. Both have apps that are loaded to phone, computer, Roku/TV, and no need for VPN. The cost is more overall, but I don’t want to mess around w/screen casting, restrictions, etc.

That pretty much gets you all 3 grand tours and the majority (if not all) of the others.

But…you are stuck with NBC announcers, which is a deal breaker for me.

Whoa Fubo Cycling looks pretty good for $59. I was looking at the FAQ and you don’t need a regular Fubo subscription.

I’m liking GCN Race Pass more and more. It’s the first time there’s been high quality, ad-free race coverage for Australia without jumping through lots of hoops.

Is “soon” days, weeks, months or even worse, Brian?

It’s hard to say exactly as it takes quite a lot of testing to ensure new features will scale up without a lot of issues, but it’s currently being tested by users. So we’re hoping for days/weeks rather than months! We’d love to be more specific and promise an exact date but the reality is that we are unable to do this right now without being dishonest - I hope that helps!

Looks like Fubo is $59 for the rest of the year and will renew at $120, unless maybe I’m missing a promo. So same price as Flobikes. Flobikes does have the Tour in the US, looks like, but otherwise their schedule through the fall is identical to Fubo’s, which includes the Giro. When you watch FloBikes, you can see you’re getting the Fubo feed, so that makes sense.

Flobikes doesn’t have the Vuelta in the US, some spring classics or Road World’s. They do have some US cyclocross (if it happens) that probably won’t be on Fubo. No Liege or Fleche either.

If you bought NBC cycling pass, and Fubo or Flobikes, you’d have all the classics, all the worlds, and all the grand tours. Plus, redbull.tv is free and shows all the XCO and downhill. That’s $175 a year/$14.58 per month.

I’m not a fan of the NBC announcers either. I watch the add free stream which taps into the Australian feed and I don’t mind those commentators as much.

I think I’m doing the same thing. The NBC cycling Pass + Fubo Cycling Pass. The biggest thing Fubo has that NBC doesn’t is the Giro.

I signed up y’day for GCN racepass and its a great option in Oz where Eurosport got punted from Foxtel to Fetch earlier this year. It streams & casts seamlessly from my Android Tablet. Gives me all the race days not covered on Free to Air (SBS) and its very easy to watch on demand without spoliers which is important down under. Great value and an essential tool for surviving lockdown

I subscribed yesterday for the racepass and watched 2 episodes of “World of Cycling” whilst on the trainer. I really loved it! That is some good quality content! It’s like the GCN show without product placement, without youtube ads and main focus on bike racing with really good quality guests! Amazing stuff!

I also watch the final part of the Criterium du Dauphine. I really like Matt Stephens as a commentator!

Happy days, congrats to everyone involved in creating the app and the content. Can’t wait for the web player to be released!

I guess Stage 2 of the Dauphiné is on Race Pass and not Eurosport?

It’s on Eurosport 2 right now - in the UK at least.

Mike

Currently on the verge of cancelling my eurosport sub. I only watch cycling, which should be on the Race Pass. Basically only the lack of a fire tv gcn app keeping me there.

Does anyone know how to airplay the GCN pass app to a TV from an iPhone but still use the phone? Every time I switch apps it stops the airplay.

Whuuut. I swear the schedule made no mention of it. Or I got confused with day 1 highlights…
