Fenton I think most guys won’t even open the link and even less will read it. I did, so I’ll quote some statements that make sense just to make them visible, I’m not saying they are right but others debunking the movie aren’t has right has some posts here intended to make believe. Here it goes:

  • “… the movie challenges a very basic and antiquated notion that vegans cannot be athletes or build muscle at an elite level.”

  • “Every article I read bemoans a vegan bias and states that the science is erroneous. Of course, most of the critiques of the science come from people who have not read the science and/or cannot understand the science because they have no expertise in the field. In fact, the vast majority of people criticizing the movie seem to have never seen the movie based on what I read in their critiques.”

  • “The fact that people are shocked by a vegan bias is dumbfounding to me. This is not a movie that sought to review the scientific details of performance on plant vs animal data. Can’t imagine a movie that comprehensively reviews the science behind plant based diets vs omnivorous diet, reviewing the statistical analysis and methodology in depth, would hold anybody’s attention. The movie is a story about an athlete who felt better on a plant based diet and sought out other athletes that chose a plant based diet either for other reasons, or because they felt like they performed better on a plant based diet.”

I won’t quote any more, it’s a good reading debunking the debunker if I may say so and the debunker had some bias and interests (financial support from dairy industries) that surely made him say what he said.

My main point isn’t who’s right or not but Instead make your own analysis of the hole picture and then take your own conclusions. And by the way experiment yourselves for let’s say 2 or 3 months a more plant based diet and then take your own assumptions instead of believing all the crap that’s found online.

Everyone I know who’s watched it is going ‘plant-based’. Although Christmas is probably not the best time to start.

I’ve a friend who’s a sports scientist who is experimenting on himself by going vegan for his winter training. He’s monitoring power outputs etc etc.

I’ll wait until what he comes up with before I commit.

And that’s the best take away from this film - people will start testing and checking the impact on themselves. Also educating themselves on what and what not to eat.

I tried to read the article Fenton linked. Made it about 2/3 the way through and it left more questions than answers for me.

Weird question: Are you for or against human abortion? I’m just curious. I know a lot of vegans have NO problem with human abortion, while complaining that I’m adding chicken to my salad. Biggest hypocrisy ever.

Can we not invite another even more contentious topic into this one, please…

It’s pretty irrelevant. My stance on veganism is that, in this day and age for the majority of us, exploiting animals is unnecessary. End of. Abortion, regardless of my own personal views, is an entirely different topic, and arguably a case by case one. Heck, I just don’t want unnecessary suffering all round.

Just pointing a big flaw in the thinking of many vegans… Should we talk about politics now? :joy: :innocent:

Most contentious, but never dared to ask: Is it ok to have a subscrition on TR, Zwift and Sufferfest at the same time? I do and feel not guilty.

You dirty poly-training-app user… I can’t even stand to look at you.

At least have the decency to keep it to two apps. It’s ok to have one side piece, but that’s it :stuck_out_tongue:

Most interesting I find how attacked every party feels. Game Changer just shows that some athlets perform well with plant based food. Oooh, and don´t forget the errection. They got me with the part of the errection. I stopped eating meat immediatly after that… So, some people changed there mind on eating meat after watching it. Where is the problem? Do they steal something or destroying anybody´s life here? No. Everyone who eats meat should be happy with every vegan more in the world. Less demand means lower prices for same supply. Law of economic  And now we are talking about abortion, curios. What I`ve learned most here: Never talk about politics, religion and now plant based diet on a small talk. Too controversial and it seems to be a 1 or 0 discussion.

I’m vegan, pro-choice, and don’t care whether or not you have chicken in your salad. I don’t consider myself a hypocrite (at least not for those reasons).

This is not the place for a debate about abortion, but here’s one simple, completely fact-based rationale for why pro-vegan and pro-choice beliefs can be held by the same person without a shred of hypocrisy:

A vegan diet is better for the environment
A smaller world population is better for the environment

(Disclaimer: the latter has no bearing on my opinions on abortion, just pointing out that there’s more than one reason that someone might chose to be vegan.)

I really don’t know why some people get so worked up about people choosing to be vegan. If people are actually complaining about you adding chicken to your salad then I can understand you being peeved, but I’ve never met a vegan that would actually do that.

If I say I’m against suffering, but I also enjoy kicking people off their bikes in my spare time, it would be fair game for anyone to point out that hole in my reasoning process.

I wasn’t talking about all vegans, only about those vegans (probably the vast majority) for whom animal suffering is among the top 3 reasons for why they’re vegan.

For those vegans, it is hypocritical.

Not necessarily, but we can’t get into that without debating the ethics of abortion - I’m not interested in starting that conversation.

There was another thread about transgender participation in sport - maybe you could merge those 2 ?

Have I mentioned how much I love hot topics? :exploding_head:

  • As a moderator here, and in life… I find them tiresome and often counterproductive. Exceptions occur and people actually treat each other with respect, in an effort to learn from others with differing views.

  • Thankfully, that happens here far more often than in other places in my life, It’s one of the aspects I really appreciate from the members here and the TR crew’s guidance.

  • But still, we hit these touchy ones enough to keep me on my toes :stuck_out_tongue: )

I wonder if I get some forum accolade for starting such a hot topic? I know this thread has kept my notifications full over the last month.

You have a pretty “Top Topic” based on your summary:

And a big one from the admin view:

And at some point, there are Badges you can get for “popular” ones.
Not sure which one(s) apply, but they are out there
