Any issues running the legacy app alongside the updated app?

Title says it all. I’d like to run the legacy app alongside the updated app until such time as the new app is actually functioning properly. Any issues with devices/etc. when doing so?

Hey @CZS,

What issues are you experiencing with the latest version of the app? Are you experiencing crashes? If so we certainly want to look into your issue and address them as quickly as we can. To troubleshoot, feel free to reach out to our Support Team at support@trainerroad.com.

As for running the Production App alongside the Legacy app, that can be tricky depending on what types of sensors you are using. If you are using BT sensors, you will not be able to pair your sensors to both apps because a BT sensor can only pair to one entity at a time. Even though both apps would be on the same computer, each app is treated as its own entity.

If you are using ANT+ sensors, you likely could run them in parallel, however, you would need two different ANT+ USB sticks (one for each of the apps). This could get complicated if you are running a smart trainer in ERG mode, as the apps could end up fighting for control.

So that I can give you a more concrete answer, what devices, pairing protocol, and settings are you using during your workouts? Also, what is the goal of running both apps at the same time? I feel there may be a less complicated way to achieve the outcome you are looking for.

I look forward to hearing back from you :+1:.

@Bryce

I probably wasn’t clear enough on my question. When I say I want to run the legacy app “alongside” the new app, I just mean run them each on the same computer but not at the same time. I would use the legacy app for most workouts, but didn’t want to have to uninstall the updated app so that I could continue troubleshooting my device issues when new updates are released.

With regard to my issues, please take a look at the extensive posts I’ve made in the “Bug Reports” thread. Long story short, I get constant device dropouts (maybe dropouts aren’t the right word, disconnects and reconnects) on both ANT+ and BLE. These dropouts/disconnections only occur in the new app and not on Zwift (running at the same time via separate ANT+ dongle) or on the Garmin. I have an open support ticket, but it’s been several days since I’ve received an update. Hopefully that means the QA team is working on it…

Ah sorry for the confusion there. Yes, you can absolutely have both apps installed on your device at the same time. They should not interfere with each other in any way; similar to how you can have both the Beta and Production apps installed simultaneously.

I’m really sorry to hear about the dropouts you are experiencing though. Our Development Support team has been investigating your issue, but the root cause has been hard to track down :pensive:. We will continue to help troubleshoot over inthe Bug Reporting thread.

Thanks so much for your patience, we appreciate your helps working through this problem.

Thanks for the clarification @Bryce, I’ll give the legacy app a try. If the legacy app works without the dropouts (as I suspect it will), that may also provide another data point useful in troubleshooting.
