Hi, I have been in general OK with the AIFTP ‘upgrade’. My only issue has been that now my AIFTP is around 10W higher than my ‘actual FTP’ (Let’s not debate the definition here
) I no longer get classic workouts I enjoy TR schedule such as 3 x 15 or 2 x 20 @ FTP or 5 x 5 @ 108% etc as they are not recommended as deemed too hard (the AI Tool understanding from my data exactly where I am at and what I am capable of. To me then there is a disconnect with the AIFTP and pool of relevent workouts TR AI predicts I can manage. This simply feels wrong to me… Perhaps I am missing something?
I’m in the same boat.
You can manually adjust your FTP down so you get the workouts you enjoy without hampering your training (the workouts will remain the correct difficulty regardless of FTP setting) … you will just lose the AIFTP prediction.
I mentioned in another post that recently I’ve just been using the new (unrealistically high) AIFTP though and i’ve been enjoying my training.
Both options work
It is going to push us right back into a FTP definition argument, but I think a major contributor is that TR benchmarked their FTP detection on a level 3 threshold workout, which are very short threshold workouts from my recollection. Not what I would have chosen.
Yeah, @kevistraining is right. You can manually lower your FTP, and you’ll naturally get “harder” workouts that have longer intervals and/or more time in zone.
Let me know if this works for you.
