Every workout now taking 100% focus resulting in either a failure or barely scraping through with really hard effort.
Doesnt seem I can manually bump back down?
I enjoyed the guidance from previous version but this inaccurate FTP and super hard mode is putting me right off using the platform.
I rested and fuelled very well today, proper warm up then failed Izaak Walton, a relatively low level threshold over/under.
AI FTP prediction shows back to 315 in 20days (Would have been much more motivating to show 311-315 increase but hey…). So AI plan is just bury myself for a month, fail multiple workouts and then the AI system can adapt back to where I was before? Doesnt seem to be working for me at all.
It bumped me up 6% to 370. There is no way I can do that power for 45 minutes plus. I have ignored the suggested bump and pick my own workouts using my old FTP which feels accurate. I have never used Training Peaks but thinking about exploring other options.
Trainer road picks, I’m on build phase of a training plan.
I did mix a few zwift events in, but just the tour de zwift free ride efforts (Like a casual hour ish ride).
One max effort, long recoveries after them and then two failed workouts. TSS very low as trying to allow longer to recover also, all just feels unproductive.
There is no way ive suddenly jumped in the ability its putting me at.
Yes, I’ve seen this in one of the athletes I’m coaching too. TR picked a Sweetspot 8.0 workout for here after a decent AI FTP increase which she failed. And guess what’s on the calendar the next day? A Sweetspot 8.0 workout.
Happy to share the account name for TR admins to have a look in case you’re reading this
I had a similar bump just half your wattage….. TR recommended adjusting from balanced to a lower setting ie conservative. I still found it too much and adjusted my FTP so no FTP prediction. Only completed one workout since I made this adjustment. Will see how it goes but yesterdays workout was threshold which felt like I expected.
I do think there is a different view depending on how your FTP was adjusted. There seem to be a number like you and I that find the workouts just too hard of a workout. Something in our underlying numbers gives the software the view that we can do more. Maybe I can do more but this is just too much of a jump
The FTP is not directly a measure of your ability - you should be able to put in a wide range of values for FTP and the system should give you productive workouts by balancing the high FTP with low workout levels.
I think there is a bug where this isn’t working correctly all the time for all athletes though.
Have you tried manually adjusting your FTP up and down and seeing what happens to your future workouts?
If you want to estimate the number you can hold for 40+ minutes, do a 20 minute FTP test, or better still a 40 or 60 minute test.
If you want to improve the number you can hold for 40+ minutes then stick a long TT in the calendar as your A race and let Plan Builder do it’s thing.
If you just want to get fitter for one of the many types of bike race which don’t require you to do a maximal, steady 40+ minute effort then it doesn’t really matter whether your AI FTP number is a wattage you can hold for 40+ minutes, it matters whether it’s a number that spits out good training workouts which will progress you. FWIW it’s given me a slightly higher number than it used to, which is ideal. As I’m relatively good at VO2 and Anaerobic workouts compared to Sweetspot and Threshold ones. And when my FTP was lower and I was a level 5-6 for SS or Threshold, that meant I had to pretty much jump in at level 8 or 9 VO2 sessions and had very little headroom. I doubt I could do 40+ minutes at the FTP it’s currently got me on, but that FTP is enabling me to get appropriate workouts in all zones and durations so as far as I’m concerned it’s a good number.
I think it’s showing 1.7 and TSS 60 on @jake123’s calendar as the work done out of the original 2.8/113, given it wasn’t finished? Can’t explain the 5 minutes though.
After you have done the workout the level is adjusted and labelled in your calender as the work you actually did.
Personally I think this makes sense as I want my calender to reflect the work I have completed - but you are not the first and definitely won’t be the last to not realise that it does this.
If you go and find the Alzaak Walton in the workout library you will find it original level is higher like Eddie said.
