AI Detection not working for me

Like many others in this forum i have lost all interest in the AI detection. Prior to the big change last year I had an increasing FTP when training according to the suggested program, I aced a 7 day MTB race.

Now I train about the same and the predictions are always dropping. Today I manually set my FTP at 224, and then if i follow the suggested work-out as suggest my your fancy AI Detection my FTP will end at 215. Can some tell me why if i follow a program that my FTP will drop. There is some basic logic missing, I train and follow the program to get better not worse.

If you’re doing any of your workouts outside, you’re likely running into a bug that’s causing FTP Predictions/Detections to be low.

There is a ton of chatter about it here on the forum, and this is the company’s top priority at the moment. We’re hoping to have a fix out soon, so hang in there.

How is your training feeling? Are your hard workouts feeling appropriately hard?

That’s what’s most important right now while we get this sorted.

Let me know if I can help with anything moving forward. :handshake:

Hi Eddie

Thanks for the response. Let me relate my experience. Firstly this is not to blame TrainerRoad this in entirely me being dumb. I have used the TR platform very successfully to ride and race better. Since the introduction of the new AI models I have seen a sharp decline in my FTP and even with a very intensive training program which I follow it keeps on predicting a lower FTP three weeks out, based on the upcoming workout schedule and I assume it’s rating of RPE. Here is the dumb part, seeing this number influenced me to just add more training volume regardless of the recommended sessions which would have led to a lower FTP as per the prediction. I kept on adding volume and effort and the it made not change to my predicted FTP not up or down just the same lower number. This is annoying. I did a proper FTP test with a reputable entity and my FTP was closer to what I know it should be, the actual number is not so important, but the challenge stays. I am getting better or worse based on what the AI model predicts. I am now so overtrained I need to take a break for at least two weeks to recover, again all my own doing. I love the ease of TR and the workout load set to the right effort for me, but the prediction sucks, how can if be worse on any given day if I follow the program I selected? I am not leaving TR but this question must be answered maybe Jonathon can address this in a podcast.

Hey,

Thanks for following up.

Looking at your calendar now, it appears that your next FTP Prediction might be low because of a couple of things. One is that you don’t have much training in place between now and then, and only one hard workout.

The other thing is that you’ve rated your most recent hard workout as a “Maximum Effort,” which likely told the model that your workouts were much harder than they should have been, which often signals an FTP that’s too high.

Do you remember why you struggled on the 25th?

Your training has been pretty steady for the most part, though. How did that race on the 18th go?
