Adaptive Training Closed Beta Update

It should update PLs (with the caveats re outside workouts)

Ah, this was an outside workout recorded with a Garmin unit and linked to a TR outside workout. Is that the reason?

I see problems starting with my Tuesday outside workout.

Desktop app (macOS):

iOS app (latest beta):

web app:

So yeah, I used the web app on Tuesday evening to rate the workout as Easy. But not propagating to iOS and Desktop apps.

And I’m unable to update the survey for Wednesday.

i think w/ Garmin it’s something like it works with Garmin HU → Garmin Connect → TR, but not Garmin HU → Strava → TR? I don’t have a Garmin so hopefully someone who knows the scoop will weigh in.

Ok, my ride currently was imported from both Strava and Garmin Connect. I’ll play around with import settings to see if it makes a difference. Thanks.

Thank you! It does look like there’s an issue with unstructured outside ride surveys, but a few instances of outside workout surveys as well, so reporting those cases is super helpful and will help us isolate if its an import/association issue or otherwise.

For my last outside workout, I am also not getting the survey to work:

supported responded and confirmed it was a known issue and the dev team is working on a fix (no ETA).

Im having all kinds of problems with or without Strava connected. I get the occasional PL change after outside workouts but usually not.
If I’ve understood the TR staff correctly the see at least a couple of known bugs and then 2 new ones they hadn’t documented the other day when looking at my account.

At the moment adaptions and TN are useless as my levels are all off, but hey, it’s a beta…

That’s been my experience, but I appreciate others seem to be having issues from Garmin Connect too.

Either in this thread or the other, it was explained by TR that Garmin passes a workout identifier back to TR so that TR can identify what workout it was meant to be. If the ride goes via Strava, that ID doesn’t get passed back and it doesn’t work. This is also at least partly what’s behind the Wahoo issues at the moment.

Last I saw they were focussing on getting TR to recognise any power trace from any source and categorise it appropriately for PLs, which would obviously be better in the long run, but if it takes ages to get implemented then it will mean AT basically not working properly for quite a lot of people in the interim.

To preface my question/feedback I am really crap at ramp testing (and tbh real-world exams!).

Currently, I don’t have a push week option which leads to a slight testing dilemma: a couple of weeks ago I skipped my ramp test cos it was the first sunny day in a while and I really wanted a ride. Now 2 weeks into ssblv2 and things are easy I’ve not had to mark a workout hard at all in the last 2 months. I know I suck at ramps so keep meaning to try an 8-minute test and see how it goes. But currently, there’s no option to push a week to get the easy week prior so I’m left with a couple of options:

  • Use the weekend to rest and just swap out Monday’s SS for an 8 min version
  • Manually make a full rest week and deal with adaptations from it
  • Manually up my FTP using the eFTP from Intervals.icu - this is calculated from 1800 seconds so should be good for longer sets. eFTP is 211W compared to the test I did on 17th July at 193W (today was 17 something before I bailed).

I guess in an ideal world I’d push and rest but my plan does have a test in 3 weeks so I’m leading towards a manual update for the time and test properly then.

This also leads to another question/observation, because plan builder wants to be done for a good length of time to plan all your base/build most people have it running for a good long time. I’m running a plan for the best part of 12 months for a 12-hour A race in July 2022. But chances are I’ll have more events between now and then as calendars and friends become available. But I can’t see a way without killing the plan to add these events in?

I guess my thoughts boil down to should the plan be adapting yet so fixed you need to delete it and recreate to add events?

EDIT: found how to add events, so just leaves the lack of push.

Does the Intervals eFTP feel right to you? If it does, why not just use it?

I hardly ever test unless I want to flatter myself because I know it will be a big bump and I want the ego boost… But I normally know to within a few watts what the result is likely to be.

Bear in mind it is going to knock your PLs down though. You could try some “Stretch” or “Breakthrough” alternates, and see how you go there.

I’m am planning to use it for now, but it was more the fact that I couldn’t push weeks to add a test test week.

Until today I’d not realised, although it could be in the future so thought I’d mention.

Ah yes, losing the ability to push weeks has been a bit annoying for me too.

I thought that adding a holiday week might do something similar but all it really seems to do is just delete the workouts that were in that week.

If you are experiencing issues with the post ride survey saving, this is what worked for me when I’m doing inside rides:

  • once you’ve completed the survey, hit analyze online
  • quit the TR app
  • relaunch the TR app
  • check in the browser that your ride ratings is showing up

i do exactly the same!

Guess that also means the ride must be recorded on the Garmin while the TR outside workout is played on the Garmin?

If you just upload an outside ride from Garmin to TR and then link a workout to it, it doesn’t work.

Some BIG news:

That IS great news. I was considering shelling out for a new Garmin 530, but now I can keep my trusty Lezyne for a bit longer

I raised a bug a few weeks ago and the suggestion from support was that there was a race condition if you had both Garmin and Strava connected to TR. If Garmin got in first then the workout counted towards adaptations, if Strava was first then it didn’t. The “fix” was to disconnect TR and Strava. That didn’t actually solve the bug I saw but it aligns with the workout ID being stripped.
