Are there any plans to incorporate other health sensors into adaptive training? Specifically, devices like the Whoop strap or (preferably) the Oura ring?
They talked about hopes to incorporate things for steps, sleep, HRV and anything else that helps fill the picture for better understanding of the rider and their current state. It’s deep into the podcast from last week, but they covered a range of options.
This whoop? Anyone using a Whoop? - #514 by Bestevaer
There are better technologies to get this info. Wondering how many people will buy whoop for this functionality without realizing they should have gone with Garmin or polar for the same info to feed the model. (Though I’m not sure if polar has an api to make that possible to give the info to tr)
FWIW I don’t agree with a thread where we with no AT access can’t interact. As we’ve already seen in the other thread, some users have asked great Qs to those in the Beta, and some like @mcneese.chad have responded with great info.
Plus, for some, it’ll take the impatience and frustration to a whole other level if they can’t access AT AND then find that they are excluded from discussions on it too.
We could always have another thread where those of us not in the beta could ask and discuss things. I would rather see a forum with all the testers discussion rather than it being private and us knowing nothing.
I think you’ll find we started doing it BEFORE Nate and Chad told us not to.
We continued doing it out of a sense of tradition…

Off topic completely but AFAIK acronym is super cool. Took me a few secs to work out what it is ![]()
Shorthand is nice for use on mobile in particular because I’m terribly slow and make mistake all the time. So less typing is usually better. ![]()
To my knowledge at least the garmin does not track hrv unless paired with a chest strap. And can monitor HR constantly but much the the detriment of battery life (still better than an Apple Watch). And having had a whoop for the last three weeks the data processing and insight from the whoop is interesting.
For exercise the hrv data isn’t that good through the optical sensor, but when at rest it can do hrv through the optical sensor. Hrv through optical sensors when active is a generic problem, whoop isn’t better at it. Body battery depends on hrv so obviously Garmin uses the data:
The old Garmin may have an issue with battery drain taking 24/7, but that limit hasn’t been true in awhile (my 935 lasts at least a week with 24/7 tracking). Anything with body battery is new enough to not have that issue.
Define track HRV? They don’t record it by default but lots of the firstbeat metrics use it
@bnied , as a totally objective approach, you could prioritize your Strava followers
BTW, hope you’ll be able to find time to train soon!
Hi @Nate_Pearson @Jonathan @ambermalika - in eager anticipation of AT becoming available, is there any merit in doing a Power Profile test? (E.g. H.A. & A.C. Power Profile Test)
Or will you recommend a different or new test, alongside the Ramp Test, or does the Ramp Test give you everything you need to know?
That could be a good way to boost my followers
. Gotta catch up to the podcast crew somehow haha. And thank you! Life has gotten extra busy with all the excitement around AT, and my twin boys are at a point where sitting and watching me ride isn’t fun anymore for them. Hopefully I’ll be able to find a better time to train soon!
The Ramp Test is al you’ll need to get the full experience of AT. In the meantime feel free to just keep up with your normal plan. No need to change anything up in anticipation of AT.
Any rank-and-file users actually added to the closed beta yet?
yes, looked into this recently for my Fenix 6, and stress scores (0-100) seem to be just an arbitrary scale on HRV data
Not that I have seen yet. The plan (per Nate) was to add 50 users last Thursday. But the initial beta group hit some issues around then (maybe a bit before, but memory is strained right now), and I see more discussion of issues this morning.
It’s possible they have delayed those entries until handling the existing issue. This is all speculation on my part, but based on general observance of discussion within the initial test group.
thanks for the attention Chad! At this point I’m not fully following all these different threads since several have become pretty repetitive. I’m just poking my head in now and then to see if anyone’s actually been added.
Seems to me an FAQ is probably in order before too long, not that people will actually check it
- Do I still need to do a ramp test?
- Are you selling my data to China?
- Does it factor in runs and swims?
- Will it analyze outside rides with/without a power meter/HRM?
- Does it integrate whoop/garmin/etc?
so on and so forth
