I’m trying to imagine signing up for a closed beta and being upset that it’s not feature complete… nope, can’t do it. Maybe this is google’s fault for calling everything it releases a “beta”, setting the internet’s expectations way too high. This thread is tilting towards affirming why most other companies just do product development in secret, which is sad because it’s a breath of fresh air seeing how open and forthcoming TR are.
Just got into the beta!
I’m on a recovery week, but I previously (manually) had LV Sustained Power Build, followed by LV 40k TT starting next week. Deleted them, did plan builder, and it built the same plan ![]()
I’ve skimmed the thread but…
I substitute the Saturday ride for a 2.5-3.5 Endurance ride. Is there a best way to do this? Just find a comparable outdoor ride (with a level) and make sure they’re associated? Do you have to actually run the workout from the head unit?
I know that Strava and Wahoo synced rides aren’t impacting levels/AT at this time. If I record with my Garmin 945 and have that file associated, does that work? I tried deleting the associated Strava data with the manually added outdoor workout (Sutton) and uploading the 945 data instead with it. It does not appear to impact my endurance level (it’s considered a breakthrough).
I’m scheduled to do Petit tomorrow. Just wondering given my setup, if I want it to “count”, do I have to do it on the trainer?
Congrats to you! Enjoy and I hope its an awesome experience for you

I would just modify the bias on one of my power meters so they both read the same with 10 second smoothing. Then you’d never have to adjust either one. Either that or get power meter pedals and swap them between bikes.
Quite possible - although that’s just savvy marketing if you ask me. I’d imagine they put some thought and experimenting into figuring out what kind of features are best to launch in the spring to retain current users, and which features to launch in the fall to attract new users. Although interesting to note that Zwift still does not offer a discounted annual plan, IIRC.
And FatBoySlim makes a good point, Zwift didn’t promise the new world in late winter and then not release it in late spring…
I work at an AI company. Beta testing is hugely important. But closed beta is closed beta, we’d never do it so publically. It’s basically getting customers to test out your buggy prototype for free. There’s a vested interest on the part of the client to give relevant, timely feedback (they end up with a better product) but it’s still unpaid labor…
My latest experience was that the levels changed downwards but not to 1. I did an outside 20 min effort, manually adjusted the TR threshold settings 10W upwards and the changes seemed at a reasonable level to me. They did all revert to 1 after an earlier change but that was much earlier in the beta process and was a bug.
I guess within AT the available changes will depend on the scale of those changes, ie if a progression level in at 2 there isn’t much room to move downwards after threshold increase and equally if the scale of the increase is large, for a newer user or a higher level athlete returning from an injury break for example, progression levels may change more significantly.
For me the latest changes seemed appropriate.
If you want it to impact progression levels, yes.
Technically I think it impacts progression levels either way, it’s just that if you don’t do it with a TR rode the AT never sees it and thinks you should drop in PL.
In March 2020 Zwift told us a new UI was ready for release for AppleTV. Then Covid hit so they said they delayed release due to the influx of new users. Then later in the summer said they decided to start from scratch again. Over a year later still no sign of it
Technically absolutely true. I did assume the question was about including the workout rather that excluding it ![]()
Wow, this thread is getting wild. I’m on the waitlist for AT but I’m happy as is with my current plan. I think AT turned out to be a bigger release than first anticipated when they announced it, and don’t get me wrong, I’m super antsy to get in. But now the weather is getting nicer I’ll probably do a lot of outside rides, so until AT can factor these in, I’m in no rush.
Actually, whether the timing was intentional or not, the huge AT announcement came hot on the heels of the Dylan Johnson “controversy” and a lot of grumbling about plans being too aggressive.
True, but… I mean, delaying the release to deal with the massive influx of users (that otherwise could ruin the experience for everybody) is an extremely legit reason to delay a launch, and a lot can change in the interim year-plus, so deciding to start over…it’s entirely understandable. Unfortunate, but understandable.
And now that they’re less aggressive as stock plans, there’s uproar for that too…
As the saying goes, “You can’t please everyone.”
I know, this is hilarious tbh. The user base of TR is so huge that it’s never ever going to ideal for everyone, experienced athletes with years of tracking training know this and make adjustments accordingly.
I get there was a big announcement and everyone likes something new to try but as I said above, for me, it’s not ‘that’ exciting but I’m approaching it from a viewpoint of someone who isn’t doing competitive events but just likes training so I’m no doubt more chilled about what the plan and adaptations are doing for me.
And if you’ve ever worked in software the second part goes “but it is easy to piss off everyone!”.
The problem is that they simultaneously dropped ramp rate, smoothed out progressions, and dropped the difficulty level of the starting point. It’s a big reset to do all 3.
First two, along with easy to find and apply guidance on selecting an appropriate starting workout level, would have solved a lot of problems. Or better yet, waiting to release the updated plans until they can adjust the plan according to user appropriate starting level.
None of the changes work if you start out so low you aren’t going to see a benefit.
Yeah I have to be honest it does seem odd that you’re punted right back to level 1 when you start a new plan in AT.
I could have gone out and quite easily ridden 200km at the start of my new plan but I was given level 1 for endurance.
They can only go by what was in my calendar I guess though.
I have no intention of invalidating the comments of people unhappy with changes. They’re valid and I empathize and understand. My point is there’s a group who also is in favor of the changes and likes them, but is nowhere near as vocal. I’m in that camp. That doesn’t make either of our positions invalidated, but does highlight that sometimes business decisions need to be made irrespective of the customer to drive future growth and reach new potential. It’s not possible to please everyone, so you have to do what’s right for the business’ future and brand. I think TR has done that, despite folks being upset right now.
Much to my surprise, upon opening my email this morning, I had received an invitation to join AT Beta. I didn’t expect to be receiving an invite until full rollout. Anyway, I’m not going to pass up the opportunity.
Honestly, I think AT took one look at my ‘tweaked’ Plan Builder Plan(s) and got the hell out of Dodge. I swear I heard it say ‘You’re on your own there, sunshine!’
As such, I’m not expecting it to do much in the short-term. Seeing the Achievable > Productive > Stretch ratings did please me and it was good to know that my ‘self-styled’ Base Plan wasn’t going to kill me.
My current Progress Levels look to be about where I’d expected, if not a little high. Sprints get done outdoors so that one won’t move ![]()
